Hi everyone. My H and I are both Adhd - I was diagnosed in May and am really enjoying a whole new hopeful outlook on life thanks to this knowledge/meds. The research that my husband and I have been doing has led us to the conclusion that he also has these attributes albeit somewhat differently expressed than mine. What I used to call severe workaholism, we now see as super hyperfocus on his part.
Now we know why despite our outward competency and constant hard work, we live in a state of constant chaos. This becomes more and more apparent, as our grown children outdistance us (Thank God) in all areas of their lives. We have made a royal mess of our lives in every way possible. It's as if it's all "caught up to us now".
Anyway, now that we know what the problem is, we know we can fix it with the right help. Any suggestions out there on a "couples approach"? We live in a very rural area. The doctor I saw for my diagnosis is two hours away. It's just too far. I feel we need a doctor who can work with both of us both on the adhd and on our mounting physical concerns (due to a lifetime of neglecting our own health). My own medical doctor thinks I'm nuts and that adhd is a "made up" condition. I'm sure there are doctors closer but I'll be d---ed if I can find them. Would a children's doctor be a good resource for us? We really need to find a jumping off point. Thanks much, Pat
