Hi everyone, I need time at some point in the day to totally space out. I LOVE to rock and can just rock and stare at the wall, thinking random thoughts. Maybe going over conversations that i have had with people. Sometimes changing the conversations, if need be, and imagining i told them exactly what i really thought.HA Does any one out there do this? It feels totally normal to do this. But i wonder if i wasn't like this if i would think it strange to walk into a room and see somebody rocking like they were in a marathon staring at the wall. Having a rocking chair in my life is a must. When i was a kid we didn't have a rocking chair and i use to bounce on the couch. I also use to rock back and forth on my heels for hours. I use to have to roll myself back and forth to get to sleep and even had to do that as an adult.omg fortunately i don't rock on my heels anymore or roll in bed. I can't it makes me dizzy now. HA!! Talk to me fellow rockers.

I rock a ton, too!

I used to only rock in private, just because of the "weird" concerns. Occasionally, I had days where I open rocked in front of my friends, but because we were all the "weirdos"/outcasts in school, everybody just ignored it. They didn't bother me about my "weirdness," I didn't bug them about theirs. We all had trouble being accepted, so we accepted each other pretty unconditionally.

I've recently relaxed more at home about things I do that are "odd," and have rocked in front of the television. My sister's had some sharp comments ("You look autistic or something! Stop that!") but I just deflect it as calmly as I can. ("What's wrong with looking autistic? That implies there's something wrong with being autistic. Is there something wrong with that? What?")

There's obviously some places and situations in which it would be prudent NOT to rock. (Job interviews, for example!) But I have decided more and more often that unless I'm honestly bothering someone (which I don't mean to do), then I don't care if I look "weird."

I also used to swing as much as I could, but I've noticed I can't do that as much anymore because I too experience dizziness (or nausea). Something about an adult's developing vestibular system, maybe?

You described me perfectly, boy I thought I was the only one who rocked constantly and I replay conversations in my head too. I also visualize future conversations too, so that when I actually have the convo-it seems to go smoother, less brain farts. I don't own a rocking chair right now, I broke the last one-just wore it out, so I tend to sit on the floor and rock. I think my bf thinks it's weird, but he doesn't say anything about it. As far as rocking to fall asleep, I enjoy that too, or I'll shake one foot till I fall asleep-I always thought that was weird. I loved sleeping onboard a ship when I was in the Navy, the ship did the rocking for me!

Yes, I do this constantly too. Most things I say have been rehearsed somewhat. I think it helps, but then people don't realize that it's actually NOT easy for me to get jokes and stories out straight, because they don't know I "practice" so much.

Good to know it's not just me.

Yes, it is nice to know I'm not the only one who rehearses everything before hand too. I have become pretty good at telling jokes because I pratice so much, I become very animated and people get a chuckle out of it, though sometimes I wonder what they're laughing at-me or the joke. But I don't mind if people laugh at me, just as long as they laugh.

Wow, I do alot of rocking too, especially on my high-back computer chair (not a rocker sadly) when i'm sitting at the PC. Oftentimes i'll just stare at something, and it's 'there', but my mind seems to have 'left the building' :|

I also do alot of weird stuff like sliding around the room on my PC chair, running around the house to go from kitchen to bedroom to bathroom, and I _always_ do the foot moving (sometimes body moving) in bed. It's weird, because I WANT to sleep, but I'm moving my foot constantly instead of turning off my body :P (maybe i'm releasing excess energy? ;) )

omg!!! i did the weirdest thing the other day lol i rock a lot also mostly when im listening to music, because mainly when im listening to music i day dream about things, well the other day i was walking across my living room and i had the radio blasting, i started to go off into my own little world and all of a sudden i threw my upper body forward like as if i was going to start rocking and i almost fell on my face..my b/f was lookin at me like 'what in the world are you doing?' i also rock while im driving or sitting in front of the computer....

when i was a little kid , probably 7 or 8 i would run around in circles whenever i heard music, then it went to sitting on the edge of my bed and bouncing, then sitting on the floor with my legs folded weird and i would just sit there and rock i still do it now and im 23 yrs old.... but no one knows about it because its kind of embarassing

I'm a rocker too -- mostly when working through a problem. Read somewhere that Bill Gates rocks in meeting all the time.

The nice thing about being a rocker is that you're prepared for parenting little kiddos to sleep! It's great I can hold my toddler in public and rock back and forth from one foot to the other indefinately and nobody thinks the worse of me for it! When they're too big, I'll have to come up with something else, maybe justing "swaying to the music" or better yet do like Bean and just be myself and who cares what they think anyway.

I also do the conversation thing in my head. I just wish I could be as eloquent and witty in real life as in my private conversations in my head.

Absolutely! I move all the time. Mostly shaking my leg or foot. Fortunately when I teach I can move around a lot and it's not so obvious. Other times, I have had to put up with being told what others think about it.

I have a ton conversations in my head too. Either I'm replaying them and thinking about what I really wanted to say but didn't/couldn't. Or I'm trying to figure out how I want to say something to someone. Sometimes, I'm actually talking out loud and don't really realize it. That's when people look at me like I'm more than a little "off".;) At this point, they can take me or leave me, but I can't tolerate the reactions very well regardless. Does that make sense?

When I was young, I rocked back and forth on my feet a lot and hummed. I never heard of anyone else doing it. I'm glad there are fellow rockers out there! Now I always rock my legs when I'm sitting.
