Just wondering if it is a trait of ADD AD/HD people to like fast paced music.

I primarily like blisteringly fast Heavy Metal, faster and heavier and more aggressive the better.
I shun 95% of Poopular music, Pop or Poop? I pick poop!

Anyway, something sometimes happens in my brain, when I am bombarded by fast rythmic music, I like my Metal well structured, I would compare the Metal I like with what Beethoven on speed would play if you gave him an electric guitar with a distortion pedal. I don't like garbage metal, like the stuff they peddle to the kids nowadays on TV.
I like quality, quick changes in tempo, complex musical structures, and I like it fast.
And good metal delivers :)

Current fave:
At the gates

All time faves:
Motorhead
Megadeth
King Diamond
Kreator
Piledriver-Metal Inquisition
Judas Priest
etc.

I'm basically the opposite, I think. I don't much like metal anything - although I may find some I like (because my music tastes are wide-ranging and bizarre), I don't know of any metal bands I like right now.

I generally like music that isn't overwhelming in the sensory sense. Not too loud, because I get overloaded and stressed. The instrumental lines have to be interweaving and answering each other in ways that I can clearly pick out and follow, or I also get stressed. And nothing too repetitive, because it's so boring that listening to it is like water torture.

That said, I can listen to something that breaks all those rules for a short amount of time, but not forever.

I like orchestra music, for example. I like being able to follow all the separate sections of the music and the way they logically pattern together, all at once. (I hope that made sense...? I'm a little tired, and I can't think of a better way to phrase it.)

Also, lyrics are important. Simpler music is fine as long as the lyrics are imaginative enough that I can spend hours coming up with visual stories to accompany them.

So, I guess complexity is good, but only in such a way that I can build on it in my head myself. I think I tend to find that metal ("loud crash-crash") is dissonant to my ears, and that is maybe more the problem than "fast" - the music doesn't make "sense" to me. But I also haven't listened to much, and it may be that it would be less dissonant if I could handle the volume I'd have to play it at to really hear the details. (When I listen to classical, for example, I want to hear every little thing, so I turn the music WAY up, and maybe just dial it down for certain parts, so I don't blow out my ears. But it's generally quieter music, except for certain parts.)

I used to like fast pased music

Until I discovered as to how it speeds me up and makes me even more hyper

now I find mellow music is much better for me as it helps to keep me down to earth and level

Fast paced techno is the best.

Oh yes! Techno, D 'n B, both of which I think are an aquired taste, and that odd little bit of punk. I usually go for either fast with rhythm or strange, and yes...dissonant. Good way to channel that excess energy and drown out any background noise other people in the house are making when I'm trying to work on an assignment. Although I do sometimes go into overload if the music in a club is too loud and there are too many people bumping into me, but that's what I bought that pair of € 25 earplugs for... If something's too conventional or lacks energy, it doesn't do anything for me.

OK, one of you like mellow stuff, and some like Techno.

I can relate to you liking mellow stuff to the point where there are times when I prefer silence to any music at all, then I let it all out with some good metal.

To me it's not noise, I can hear the talent in each musician.

Not much into techno really 'cause it's too artificial to me, I like to hear talent behind music because I appreciate that. Not putting your taste down, that's just my thoughts on that.

I do like all kinds of music though, but I despise modern country music, classic country is OK, but the crap they pump out now is the equivalent of Vinyl Cowboy boots with chrome plated plastic spurs.

Phony Pop Country makes me cringe when I hear those whiny sounds.

And some of you mention that the tunes you like do affect you in adrenalinic perhaps even hair raising ways, I know when I like a song a lot my hair starts to raise.

Agreed.

I listen to music for the music, not the words (as I can't tell what is being said in most music anyway). I'll listen to most anything else before most country. Rock and heavy metal mostly for me.

I personally love rock... but anything that sounds good is good for me

Techno.... used to but NOPE.. to repetative...
Country.... OMG someone save me please.. NO
Celtic bagpipes and drums..... As of late... YES.. the sound of the bag pipes and the fast paced beating of the drum in the background.. .I love it
Rap... only if its angry screaming ... but most sucks
Rock is about my most loved... and most if it I like if its anrry and has emotion... Linkin Park, Godsmack, korn, manson, coal chamber, slipknot, system of a down, ...anhything that makes me want to mosh and hurt people is good for me... I love... and god help me if I have a good rock CD on in the car.... I drive a bit agressive when I do.

I think I was trying to say that classic country is real country music, the new stuff is a perversion of that.
I have not 1 country tune DL'ed but if I was to make a choice it would be old style.
I am not a Country music fan! Just to get that straight, like George.
I am primarily metal, I am going to try avenged sevenfold, I believe I've heard it before.

Seems most folks here like stimulating music. Get those brainwaves electrified!
