I think a lot of us have felt like human guinea pigs becasue of the trials and tribulations of meds that we have tried, just to see what works.
I thought that I would like to give everyone a list of what I have attempted to try in the past. The list also contains the two meds that I am presently on which is Metadate CD and Klonipin. I also do Botox treatments for TS.
Adderal
Anafranil
Botulinum Toxin (Botox shots)
Celexa
Conerta
Depakote
Effexor
Inderal
Klonipin
Lexapro
Metadate CD
Norpramin
Paxil
Proxilin
Tenex
Tetrabenazine (not FDA approved in the US)
Trazadone
Wellbutrin
Xanax
Zoloft
Zyprexa
Please forgive me for not spelling any of these correctly.
Wow bunny...maybe you could document what your reactions were to those meds...i.e. side effects, etc. I know that those are different for each person, but it might prove enlightening?

Okay big, here ya go. Everyone needs to remember that I have Tourettes Syndrome, ADHD, and OCD. And I do not like to take meds that make me tired, cause weight gain, or reduce my sex drive. I also felt like I the OCD effected my medication. I was constantly worried about side effects and was always calling the pharmacy with the least problem. I am now only taking Metadate CD and Klonipin and Botox. My next Botox injections are due on March 14, if I go. It is very expensive and painful.
Adderal-I was on 40 mgs. It made me anxious in the afternoon and my tics seemed to be worse.
Anafranil-Tired, dizzy when I got up out of bed, weight gained and was constantly craving sweets. However, I called this my Happy Pill.
Botulinum Toxin-These are shots that go into the muscles. They paralyze my muscle to prevent keep me from ticking as much. I get shots in my face, so my left eye, will not completely shut at night while I sleep causing dry eyes. The shots in my chin and above my lip cause me not to be able to properly form my lip when I apply lipstick. I was drooled when I first got the shots. They are very expensive and painful.
Celexa/Paxil-I can’t remember which drug did which. But one of them, the very first day made me very sick to my stomach. The other one made me very lethargic and tired. I wanted to do nothing except sit and did not even want to do that.
Concerta-I was on Atkins diet when I took this. So I am not sure if it was the Concerta or the Atkins that made me dizzy.
Depakote-I started loosing my hair.
Effexor-I did not like the idea of this drug in the beginning because of what I read about it. But it caused weight gain and lack of sex drive.
Inderal-The psychiatrist was hoping this would help my tics. I don’t recall any side effects but it did not work for the TS.
Klonipin-I am taking this now. 2 mgs. I get sleepy during the day but other than that, no problems. It helps reduce my anxiety which helps reduce my tics. I have had good results.
Lexapro-I only took this for 2 weeks. I do not like the SSRI drugs. I do not have a lot of luck with them and the side effects. This drug is very similar to Celexa in the makeup. I recall no side effects with it.
Metadate CD-I am taking this now with pretty good results. I don’t think it lasts as long as I expected on a daily basis.
Norpramin-I don’t remember
Paxil-I don’t remember. I was probably tired, weight gain and lack of sex drive.
Proxilin-I was placed on this for TS. Within 3 days my tics were 75% reduced. But after so long the side effects became unbearable. Major anxiety problems with it. I ended up with other unseal body movements such as leg swinging to the point my hips were sore and rocking in my chair while sitting up. I was also tired and weight gain.
Prozac-Took me 6 months to realize that I could not get up out of the bed to go to work in the morning. I was always late. Other than that, no side effects and it did calm me down and helped the OCD.
Tenex-A major nightmare. I was extremely tired to the point I had trouble walking from point A to point B.
Tetrabenazine-Non FDA approved drug in the US. My doc gets it out of the UK and it is for movement disorders. I hear it can cause depression. Insurance does not cover it and it is $170 per bottle and a bottle lasts about 2-3 months, but I had trouble coming up with that much money at once. It is used to treat my TS.
Trazadone-I was on this medication for 10 years. Started it as a result of PMS. But continued to take it because it helped me to sleep. When I started taking the Klonipin, the doctor said I could probably come off of it and I did. I had major problems in waking up in the morning.
Wellbutrin-Awesome drug for ADHD. I was motivated, wanted to go to work, I was productive, sat down and did my job. I had some headaches and blurry vision but this is what caused my Tourettes to become really bad. After coming off of the medication, my TS did not improve but continued to get worse.
Xanax-No problems with this. Don’t drink and take this medication.
Zoloft-No major problems with it. I don’t really recall it helping anything. But I do remember being tired.
Zyprexa-Gained 10 pounds in 11 days.
Wow!!! Thanks bunny!!! That's a great summary!
