FOUR NEW STUDIES SHOW LILLY'S CYMBALTA RELIEVES ANXIETY SYMPTOMS
Four new studies of the investigational drug Cymbalta show it rapidly relieved anxiety symptoms associated with depression, said sponsor Eli Lilly. The drugmaker said depressed patients taking Cymbalta had significant improvements in anxiety scores compared with patients taking a sugar pill, the Lilly antidepressant Prozac, or the antidepressant Paxil from GlaxoSmithKline. Symptoms improved from the first week of each study through the end of the studies, which lasted eight or nine weeks, Lilly said. The FDA has given tentative approval to Lilly to market Cymbalta. The company has said final approval may come by the end of the year.
