Although, IMO I think there ought to be more thorough questions. I think being sensitive is a little more involved then whether or not I like animals or not lol. (And I do)

Here is a page about the Original Star Trek episode, the Empath. This one stuck in my brain since the original airing. I identified with Gem even in high school. It is a really powerful, yet cheesy episode.
I really feel compasion for everyone here, but gotta do housework. Feel my pain? :D

I've often wondered that myself, Futs.

If some of us with Empathic traits 'absorb' others' 'feelings', especially those of depression, suffering, anger..or any other 'negative' emotions...

I know I'm incredibly sensitive to individuals who reflect 'anger'...even if they aren't visibly showing those behavioral traits. I have to remove myself, physically, from their presence.

Other 'negative' emotions...such as depression, or suffering, I can sense also, but they don't have an immediate effect on me, as 'anger' does.


It's humorous to note that in my case, I do sense 'negative' emotions, more frequently, in others, than positive ones.... maybe because those are the ones that most individuals try and hide from others.

That's not so humorous to me Nova :(. I can tell ya it took me a long time to get past that myself. I try extremely hard to push past that one, and focus on sensing what lies underneath in other people, and also in me.

Its a rough road; a blessing and a curse, but it can be different. I know it can.

also something i find a little odd, if there is someone that is near you who is frustrated but trying to hide it, do you feel like a kind of heat come off of them?

but yeah, if theres someone thats really happy around me i become happy too, the only emotion that doesn't effect me directly is anger, i feel i have to kind of escape from the source of it.

Reading body language and paying attention to the tone of voice, is a skill that can be learned, DmX, using our five main 'senses'.

I've attended courses regarding those subject matters, and while those skills take a while to 'perfect', they are skills that can be learned by anyone willing to put forth the effort and time, to learn them.

The empathic gift deals solely with using intuition (which is not part of our five senses, but separate). You 'feel' what's going on, in lieu of the observational methods, used in deciphering nonverbal gestures/body language.

I agree that I pick up others' emotions. Being around negative people literally makes me sick. Sort of like toxic energy.

But if I am around a positive and relaxed person, I am positive and relaxed too. Makes me feel like some kind of tuning fork, I vibrate on the same frequency as those around me. Makes me miss my old BF, who was soooo mellow. Oddly enough he is in town and called me today for like the first time in 2 years. How wierd is that. My tuning fork must also have telepathic or energy channeling features. Hmmmmmm
