I am a slob. My messy apartment is a constant source of shame for me. I have never been neat, even when I was a tiny kid. I rarely get in the mood to clean, but whenever it happens, I drop everything and go with it. And I'll do it until I'm done. I periodicly clean the apartment whenever the mood strikes, but I've always skipped the kitchen.
My kitchen was nasty. I'm so ashamed of it, I'm not going into detail, but let's just say it smelled pretty terrible, and I gagged a few times. I couldn't touch the stuff in the sink and on the counter without gloves. The dishwasher is running for the first time in a long time, even though I may have to throw out all my dishes. It's a good feeling.
I am so messy. I take out a LOT of garbage bags when I do clean. I try to invite people over a lot, because the only motivator for me to clean is if people are coming over. That has a lot to do with my mother, the neat freak, but I won't get into that here.
I just wanted to share.

That's great and I know how that feels......
I moved to a new place in June, I love my new place and so far I've been doing very very well keeping it clean and picked up ! I knew I could do it.
Our other place( rented 3 bedroom house) wasn't nice and had issues like no closets and mold.
I think the fact I love this new place is the motivation I needed to keep the place looking good.
I learned a few years back that I'm one who needs to kinda play games with my own head when it comes to housekeeping.
This bright sunny 2 big bedroom, walk in closets, 1 and 1/2 bath, dish washer, pool, patio apartment was just the head game I needed.

Congratulations! This is cause for a celebration!
I you are anything like me, you will remember this for a looong time.
As in "How can the kitchen be dirty? I just cleaned it!!" That works for about a year, until you realize that.....just because it's done, doesn't mean you don't have to do it again in a couple of months....LOL.
I HATE cleaning. The only thing I got from reading the FLYLADY website is to keep my sink and counters clean. That alone makes me feel like a kitchen cleaning success everyday. I try not to let things accumulate on the counter....and I have a nice decorative box to put (hide) stuff in so it looks kind of neat. And I bought some of those disinfectant wipes and at the end of the day wipe everything down. Including the sink. But...don't look in the drawers or fridge....it's dangerous in there!

LMAO I love it you know you haven't cleaned in awhile when scrubbing releases oders.
Awesome, awesome, awesome. Congratulations!
We moved from Indiana to North Carolina, in July. Our spare bedroom/bonus room is piled with stuff. I rarely ask people over because I am so embarrassed. I cannot motivate myself to clean. Yuck. Yet I hate a dirty or messy room. So, I can appreciate it when someone like me conquers a room!
In a week and a half, my mom will be here. She is not my worry; it is my dad and stepmother. Their place is immaculate, she is obsessive about tidiness. She will put your glass in the dishwasher before you are done drinking it (annoying!). Fortunately, my husband has a few days off before Christmas and will help me. Still... here I sit at the computer instead of pitching stuff or putting it away!
