I fully realize that this does not have to a trait specific to ADD, but are you a messy eater? Should you buy stock in the Shout company? Does your partner just take it for granted that you will automatically spill something on your shirt every time you go out to eat? :p

Yep, very much so. Constantly spilling stuff on my tops and trousers, missing my mouth with glasses and mugs etc.

Yes indeed. And I think it is just as related at bumping into things.

Thank you, Barbyma for that insight! I'm always spilling things on my shirt, and my friend says I need a sippy cup. I also spill things off the edge of my plate, and I notice that no one else seems to. If I'm at a restaurant, it's embarrasing when I'm with a bunch of people. Although I do blame some of that on the restaurant because they always have such enormous pieces of salad in a small bowl, and I need to cut it up so naturally it spills. Everyone else eats the giant pieces which I think is impolite. Oh well, maybe I need a bib as well as a sippy cup!

I embarrass my hubby, but my Mom's the same way.

I love your avatar!.

I have only minor trouble eating; usually I just misjudge how hard I need to bear down with the knife when I'm cutting, and I end up sending stuff shooting off the plate. Whee! Better at that lately.

I'm terrible at drinking, though. There's a joke in my family that I have a "drinking problem." I'm constantly tilting the glass too far up and spilling down my shirt.

I'm a pretty anal eater, otherwise.

OH man, I do the spilling drinks down the front of me too. I think its because I either drink too fast, or take too big a gulp...i feel like such a child when I do that.

I am a messy eater on occasion during those phases where nothing seems to move fast enough and I eat like a garborator

Yeah I'm a messy eater too. That might be the reason I usually get appetizers. I'm better at handling finger foods. Drinks are my biggest problem. If I don't spill any bringing the cup to my lips then I'm probably gonna end up choking when it goes down the wrong way.

My husband's nick name for me for years was "Piggy". It started on one of our first dates, when apparently I had managed to flip a spagetti noodle up on my nose and left a sauce trail. He said he'd never had a date attack her food the way I did. My mom was always telling me to slow down and not inhale my food, so I suppose the messiness is probably just a by product of eating too fast.

YES! All my friends laugh at me when I spill because I almost always do. I SHOUT frequently as well.
I was cutting some steak fairly recently on the bf's coffee table while we were eating and watching tv and i managed to drift over the edge of the glass table far enough that when i went to cut, the entire plate flipped over saucy side down of course on his previously white carpet.

Drinking from glasses gives me the most spills.
That's why I love straws. :) I use them all the time.

I also do the same thing as Bean Delphiki with the knife.
Sheesh I try to be so careful too. :o

ME TOO! But I think it's because I don't like the feel of ice on my lip....

everyone in my family just tries to match their clothing to what they plan to eat so it is less embarrassing and easier to get out. we have "marinara sauce" sweaters, coffee pants, gravy vests etc.
it's too bad those 70's wide ties aren't in fashion - they could double as bibs.

Tell me about it! I definately need one of those new Tide-to-go sticks for my daily rainbow collection of food-colored stains.

Hey, slighty off subject, but have any of you ever done one of these: You're gently holding your drink in one hand while trying to carry a whole carload of stuff, and when you've finally made it to your destination, which is about a mile away from the parking lot, you notice a delicately drizzled, sticky trail that leads straight from your office to the car. ARGHHHH! :faint:

No, but I have noticed that I always seem to spill coffee or whatever BEFORE I have to give a lecture or something.

Hehe! I just try not to wear white. That's an interesting strategy though!

Yep...my mum always used to be able to tell where I'd been sitting at the table. Unless my dad happened to be at home and responsible for decorating the table cloth. A friend of mine once hypothesised that the fact that I drop at least part of my food on the table, floor etc. is the reason I don't gain weight. And why is it that I always happen to be wearing white when I eat tomatoes?

Im not messy, but I am very fast. Its a terrible habit!!!I can eat in a matter of minutes! I'm a fast eater too. I try to hide it but it came to a point that I don't care anymore. If people are looking at me then I'll just say hi with a mouth full of food and ask if I know them because thier looking at me like they do. People think if you eat to fast, then you will full faster, but I don't believe it. My stomachs full when I feel it's full.

I eat fast too. I think it is because I am always on the
move, move move! and anxious to be done.
I love food, but I have no time to eat :)

This post reminds me why I love this website so much. Is there no end to ADD similarities??

In college my friends would joke that I couldn't walk out of the Commons after a meal without something in my hair (which was long at the time). I don't buy clothes with expensive fabrics because it would just be a waste. And I am forever checking my face because I don't notice when I have, say, peanut butter smeared on my lip.

It's just part of the equation I guess!
