View Full Version : For those of you with inattentive ADD AddysonsMom23 11-28-05, 04:28 PM I am just wondering what medication has helped you the most? I am on Adderall Xr and it really seems to work. But since we dont have the hyper part should we be taking meds like adderall? Ann74 11-28-05, 04:36 PM Adderall has really helped me. Although, the only other med I have tried is dexedrine. THat was horrible! My son also takes adderall. It has helped him as well. He tried concerta, and I don't remember the exact term so I won't even try, but it had an opposite effect. He was talking, jumping around class, left to the restroom without permission (never done that). I had to go pick him up early. He is the inattentive/impulsive type. UnleashTheHound 11-28-05, 04:54 PM I'm inattentive and I found that Adderall XR, Concerta and Focalin XR all work about the same for me. I think I prefer the Concerta/Focalin slightly because I seem to tolerate it better. Ritalin LA didn't work so well for me, and I don't understand why. Maybe the dosage was too low. katatak 11-28-05, 05:28 PM I am taking Dexedrine and it has helped concentration a lot, reading ability and it has helped with sleep. One of the problems I encountered was not being able to turn off my thoughts at night. I believe Dexedrine has helped with that to. Methylphenidate (Ritalin etc) and Dexedrine are not just for the hyperactivity. It works for all three subtypes, hyperactive, inattentive and the combines hyper/inatentive types. They are all caused by low dopamine levels (why that is we don't know). Katatak roly poly 11-28-05, 06:33 PM I'm inattentive and I take Adderall XR. So far it's worked good for me.:) BananaSlip 11-28-05, 11:50 PM I'm the inattentive type, but I also suffer from depression so Strattera helps me out because it's also an anti-depressant. barbyma 11-29-05, 01:11 AM I love Adderall. I'm combined, but I think Adderall has actually made me a bit MORE impulsive. Or maybe I'm just more aware of it now . livinginchaos 11-29-05, 01:58 AM I am inattentive and have been on Adderall IR since diagnosis. It's worked great for me! Although we're not hyper, our brains go a bizillion miles an hour - Adderall has definitely helped it S L O W down. casinowife 11-29-05, 11:12 AM Adderall helps concentration and focus and that is what inattentive basicly is so I don't see why not. I would think the hyperness would increase when taking a stimulant but maybe I'm wrong. sehrita 11-29-05, 01:29 PM I am taking Strattera now and it seems to really be working. Ritalin caused too much rage in me and made my heart beat too fast. Also, I didn't find my concentration any better from it. ditzygirl 12-04-05, 11:48 PM I've been on Adderall and Ritalin and Ritalin seems to work the best for me and I am the inattentive type. Switching BACK to RITalin from adderall was like night and day but everyone is different. Braack 12-07-05, 02:11 AM I was recently diagnosed inattentive add. I had depression as well probably from the undiagnosed add until I am 22. The psychiatrist first tried upping the Prozac, that didn't do any good, couldn't even wait a month he suggested to see him, was in the next week. He has giving me generic Ritalin. It hasn't been doing much...makes me sleepy, and I'm on day 2 now and in class I thought I felt more distracted than before. I was motivated physically, not mentally. Hasn't touched my appetite either. Anyway, I'm sure I will be back to see him to try Adderall which I think has better success rate. |
