Hello folks. It has come a time for me to plan for my future quickly...I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to how to go about applying for dissability, what to do, general guidance, etc...
Your feedback is kindly appreciated.
Thankyou.

This isn't attributable to your ADD, is it?

I'll give you a hint. I've talk'd about it one way or another in the board.
Feel free to research the information...It is all there...

I draw disability, but because of OCD and GAD--both of which I've had for years. I was only diagnosed with ADD a couple of years ago. But since meds help with the comorbid symptoms, the ADD may be at least a partial cause of the comorbid symptoms. As near as i can tell, the research is still out on those questions.

I say talk to your Doc. if you apply and are turned down on first application, you might then see a lawyer. I've heard one should never go to such administrative hearings w/o representation.

One more friendly piece of advice. I'm thankful for my disability check. But I'm wanting to try to return to work. And there are provisions in the law allowing one to try w/o losing benefits.

The problem comes when--if you've been disabled--you fill out the first job application or write the first resume. Some companies make a big deal out of any gaps in your work history.

And while there are those who say you might cover a gap with a clever use of language, after a point the gaps are either too big or too numerous to "bluff" over.

In any event, I believe it's wrong to lie, and even if I didn't so believe, I would still deem it stupid to lie on a resume and risk getting caught and fired later.

When i was still in therapy, I went to see a state rehab counselor. this lady told me that I might actually want to consider not working. I don't doubt her sincerity, but I aspire to something better. And my therapist encouraged me to continue in career training to go back to work.

Here is the point : I won't say don't apply for disability. But please keep in mind that some employers won't look too kindly at your having been disabled if you ever try to work again.

I'm sorry if this post is somewhat rambling. It's early.

Thanks kindly for your replies:) .
I have my Pdoc appointment next week on the 21st. I suffer from PTSD, I am a 47 year old male. I was raped when I was between 7 and 12 I really do not remember. I am also recovering from drug and alcohol abuse. I have been clinically depressed for years...I was also diagnosed a few years ago with BPD, and for what I have been learning lately am possibly bipolar as well. So, for those nosey folks: there you go. A "bright and shinny" past...and a not so bright and shinny future...
I've had my own business now for a little over a year but it has grown very slowly and it is not paying my bills. I HATE BEING DEPENDENT ON ANYTHING OR ANYBODY!!!! Can you relate?:eyebrow:   :D
