I'm writing to say that I've been haveing problems w/ fidgettiness and hyperactivity. I've been tested and told that I have adhd. I don't have a problem with that. But I've been having a hard tome staying in one place for a long period of time. My coworkers say I need a sedative. Even my boss notices my fidgettyness and inablity to remain still. I spoke to my pdoc about it and he wants to prescribe Klonopin. Should I take his suggestion or should I wait it out and hope it goes away?
Thanks for the help in advance

I have this same kind of restlessness, and because it's particularly bad at night, we are calling it Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS). My P-Doc wanted to put me on Klonopin for it, I have found that all the Benzodiazepines like Klonopin, counteract my stimulant meds. I've seen the same thing in my Asperger's/ADHD son. I did a little checking around, and there is a new drug for RLS and movement disorders called Requip. I just started it yesterday, so I can't tell yet how effective it's going to be, but so far, it is not counteracting my Adderall XR.

I took my first dose of Klonopin last night and I slept like a dream. I've been fidgety for years and am got so sick of having to sleep in the couch just to give my spouse some peace; but of course, sleeping on the couch isn't quality sleep.
It did not seem to effect my other meds, so at least for me I think it will be ok. It's also supposed to be good for anxiety, panic, and other things. I hoping that the Klonopin will relieve me of the irritation I've been feeling for about a year now - daily, hourly, rage over the slightest thing.
All in all I hate taking anything, but if I can get some decent sleep maybe that will help my body/brain to behave more on an even keel.

Update: Everything seems to be running smoothly. Sleeping really well at night, not too difficult to get up in the morning (I just plain don't want to), doesn't seem to 'wear off'. So good so far!

#1. Are you on ANY medication? (eg which could be causing fidgetiness? Some medications can cause something called Akathesia, or other types of Motor Restlessness.)
#2. Please Beware of taking KLONOPIN (clonazepam) for sleeping. It has a very very LONG HALF-LIFE. It causes sedation and motor impairment for something like 12-18 hrs. (It is the longest lasting Benzo. It pretty much ties with in staying power with Valium.)
I want to warn you about Klonopin (clonazapam) because it almost took my life in a car accident in 2000. (I took it before bed, and then drove my car the next day.)
I wish someone would have warned me. Please do not drive on it, or do anything with machinery or that requires your close attention.
Benzo family and Sedative drugs (even Dramamine and Benadryl) are also well known to cause Falls (broken hips). Saw lots of that when i was a nursing student. Benzo drugs also cause Memory/Learning Problems (eg memory is needed for learning), so they might IMPAIR your work perfomance.
As if any ADD/ADHDers need any more Short Term Memory problems?
Anywho: Please be careful.
NB. If you think you have RESTLESS LEGS SYNDROME, you can check out www.rls.org (http://www.rls.org/)
Also, if you think you have RLS, your Doctor can do a Blood Test called a Serum Ferritin test. (Many Doctors don't know about the RLS-ADHD-Serum Ferritin connection, though. Only my Sleep Doctor did, and he told my ADD Doctor.)
