Hi,
Most of you know I'm new to the whole ADD thing (I found out I had it only 7 months ago), and most of you know that my mom has been trying to find me a therapist. She finally found one :)

Tonight, I'm going to see her at 6:30. I'm a little shaky, but not enough to call it nervousness. I am concerned about things she'll ask, what she'll do, etc. Last time I saw her was last week to fill out a questionare and answer questions, so we really didn't talk much. My new therapist also brought up a topic about meds. Me and my mom are reluctant about them. I don't know why mom is, but I am because I've heard of the side effects and I'm wondering how they'll affect my life (even though, it would be nice to hear the teacher at school ;)).

My point is, I'm curious as to what's going to happen tonight. Does anyone know what sorts of things therapist do with teenagers? What sorts of questions do they ask you?

My other question is, what are the usual side effects or precautions to most ADD meds/anti deppresents?

Thanks for your input!

I have my first appointment soon too, on the 28th. I'll finally get a diagnosis and then I can decide where to go from there. Tell me how yours goes so I'm ready :P

Tell me if it does anything for you. I can't really afford to go, but when I do have the money I would like to know if therapy of some form will benefit me.

Hi Paws!

I hope your appointment went well! Therapy has helped me a great deal and I highly recommend it to everyone. The most important thing is that you're comfortable with your therapist.

As for medication, each med reacts differently for each person. I got lucky with Adderall and hardly had any side effects when I first started it and no side effects since the first week - 2 weeks I started it.

Anti-depressants are the same way. Each react differently with each individual person. Hopefully your therapist has enough experience with ADD and depression that, if you decide to try meds, they can try to figure out which meds may work best (by comparing your symptoms to other patients they've had and which meds have worked best with those patients).

Hey Guys,

I did my first therapist appointment last night. Boy did it feel great! Well sure, mom used up half an hour talking about appointments and answering to applications for meds. But, I got to say what I wanted. I talked about one of my biggest problems, and Joan (the therapist) offered a lot of great solutions. She's going to check up on me Jan. 4 to see how things are going. She also wants to talk about one of my big fears (this monster from a movie; it's a very long story...).

Next Tuesday, I'm going to see a psychologist so she can review me for meds. I still have concern about meds, but I'm sure me and mom will sort that out next time.

I'm really glad my experiance went well; Joan is a very nice lady and is very helpful. It's nice to have someone to talk to, since I don't really have someone to rely on. I just have to say that I can't wait for Jan. 4 :)
