I was recently stopped for the 4th time in 6 months for speeding. When stopped i am shocked that I had been speeding. I swear i wasn't speeding the last time. I tend to zone out on speed. I concentrate more on what is going on around my car.

Since I was stopped the last time i have banned radio from my car. I think I need to have the least amonunt of distractions as possible. Now when I drive I have too much time to think.

Does anyone else have issues focusing on all aspects of driving?

I gave up the radio in the car too. Probably the only reason I never crash is because I'm easily distracted by impending doom, and thus have time to head it off at the pass.

Does anyone else have issues focusing on all aspects of driving? Oh yeah!! Last year about this time before I started meds, I found myself driving without headlights on unlighted streets at night. I had been fiddling with the light switch absentmindedly while I was daydreaming and turned them off twice and NEVER NOTICED until later!

my last car I ended up spending almost $1000 extra just to get cruise control! i've had several speeding tickets over $300 dollars! my problem I find is that I stop noticing..and my foot just gradualy pushes to the floor. if there is other traffic on the highways, I dont have a problem. I just get in the middle lane and pace traffic. but if I am the only one, I will just go faster and faster, without realizing it, until I am explaining to the state trooper why I felt going 103 mph in a 75 zone was a good idea.

and just FYI... "I had highway hypnosis" is not usualy accepted as and answer

I got my first moving violation in 15 years a few months ago. I was lost in thought and speeding (a lot). What I do to avoid this (somewhat successfully):

1) Cruise control. It's worth it. I drive 90 miles each way 3-4 times a week. W/o cruise control I'd be in a ditch somewhere or in jail from all the tickets.

2) I find I have less problems with "highway hypnosis" or drowsiness if I listen to audiobooks. Music doesn't do this for me, but audio fiction is a great mini-distraction that takes just enough of my attention to allow me to "focus" on the road at the same time.

Thanks for all the awesome replies. My husband mentioned that I might be getting these tickets so i can get a new car with cruise control. :) Wish it were true. I have been doing better on my speed, but now find i concentrate on it too much. I must learn some sort of balance.

My Doctor did add new meds after the last ticket.

Cruise control I would be lost without it. But I have notice I am a WAY better driver now that I am on adderall:)

I've only been driving for 4 years and I've already driven almost 80k miles and I'm still yet to get a ticket. I have been pulled over 3 times though and was let go all 3 times; twice for speeding and once for wreckless driving for slinging my back end around as I was pulling out onto the highway. all 3 times I was 100% at fault and fully aware of what I was doing, but the first time I got pulled over for speeding the cop was behind me for over 5 miles before I noticed him :D

I've also never been in a wreck or even had a close call.

I make 300mile trips atleast twice a month and have driven about 8 800mile trips by myself, and I don't think I could make them w/out being on adderall.
I just got a new truck a couple months ago and it's my first truck w/ cruise control and I love it! but I drove my truck before this one for a year w/out a speedometer and only got pulled over once, but I knew that I was speeding and about how fast I was going, I didn't tell the cop that though ;)

Adderall is definitely good to be on while driving long distances, it makes it fun and it never gets boring! :) but I do notice it make me kind of zone out sometimes. I'll start thinking about something and all of a sudden snap back to and not even remember driving over the last few miles. I don't know how I do it, they say driving requires 100% concentration, but I swear I only use about 5% at times :D

I like speed. The faster I drive the less waste of time it is to get from A to B.
I think since I have co-morbid anxiety I've set speeding limits where I can go up to 15 mph over the limit and be ok. So I can usually keep good tabs on my driving speed. But, I have a FIRM belief that 25 mph speed limits in neighborhoods are mandatory for everyone. Too many kids get hurt chasing some toy into the street and get hit by someone clocking over 40 mph. At 25...you can stop for just about anything.

Anyway....I suggest buying a radar detector. You can get one with a pretty loud audible alarm. Also, try getting your side windows tinted as dark as legally possible. That cuts down on distractions from outside and keeps you focused forward. It's kinda like the blinders they put on horse team to make sure they all stay focused forward. I had mine done about 18 months ago. It helps...and people can't watch you pick yer noise either.

I tried the cruise control on the car once and decided it was boring...
