Wish we were closer. I'd love a running partner. Have you set out a program for starting out slowly? I'm about 14 months into running regularly. I ran my first little race a few weeks ago. 5km and it was so much fun!
Cheers! Ian

Was that the first time you had run as long as 5km or were you racing?

I got my start with the support here (http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7714). Check at the end of the last page for my last post (http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=242803#post242803). Nobody seems to be joining in there anymore. It's sad that more people don't seem to get how powerful this can be for ADHD. Then again I can get enthusiastic over almost nothing. ;)

I seem to be the only one using it now. I miss biker terribly. He was my mentor and guide through the early days when I was only dreaming of doing what I'm doing now.

I have a 10km LSD (Long Slow Distance) tomorrow. I did a very slow 3.1kms today with a couple of kids in tow. It was fun and we talked the whole way. It was -11C (12.2F) today here with mixed sun and cloud. It's remarkable how beautiful it can be in the winter. I love how clean the air is.

I just used the pace calculator (http://www.clinics.runningroom.com/pace.php) to figure out just how slow we were going. I can't remember the last time I ran that slowly, but you know, it's still in my "zone" so I'm good with it.

2 miles
29:11
14:36/mile
9:04/km My g*d, I can walk that fast! :eyebrow:
71% of MHR (maximum heart rate)

I hardly worked up a sweat at that pace, but the funny thing is that I should be doing a lot more at that easy pace. It's how I'll see my biggest gains. Heart rate training has taken my imagination and run wild with it.

Have you read the Mark Allen story about his first experiences with heart rate training (http://www.duathlon.com/articles/1460)? It's a good read and not long.
Cheers! Ian
