I'v never been put on medications before. I just got put on Adderall and Lexapro 20mg each, one a day. The doctor said that the Lexapro should help with my anxiety and obsessions. I havent started taking them yet because I'm waiting to get my Adderall since I'm supposed to be starting them at the same time.

So I was just wondering, with Lexapro, will it completely take away my OCD? I clean a lot, but the thing is, I like cleaning. It helps me, gives me great satisfaction, and needless to say, it keeps my apt. clean! Granted, I would love to get rid of the anxiety and the bad obsessions, I'm just wondering how it's going to change me overall. anyone got any info for me?

The satisfaction you get from cleaning might be part of the OCD. Cleaning would be the compulsion (action) that accompanies an obsession (thought) with cleanliness. Medication usually improves (does not cure) your condition to a large degree, but not 100%. If the mediction gets rid of your cleaning and you want it back, you can always stop taking it.

I had to stop taking the Lexapro. I was unable to perform at work anymore. It was giving me panic attacks and making me cry uncontrollably at work at random times. I went ahead and stoped taking the adderall too, so now I'm back at square one. I have another doctors appointment with a different doctor in feb., so I'm hoping I can figure this out. Lately I've been getting really depressed (although I've felt really good the past couple of days!) I think Ritalin will help me more than Adderall will, and as far as anti-depressants go, I'm not sure...zoloft? prozac? I dunno... maybe I should just treat my ADD first and then the depression...

Yeah, I already know the info on OCD. I just wasnt sure to what degree the Lexapro would treat it.

my son has now been taking lexapro for almost a month- its done NOTHING for the rituals - we started with an am dose- there was a huge difference in school, he was TOO SLOW- wasnt completing assignments etc. So we switched to bedtime dose and then he was back to speed- but again, it doesnt seem to be helping the ocd....

I know you said it wasnt working for you, crying etc... did it help withyour routines/rituals at all?

I didnt take it long enough to have it help with anything. As soon as it started causing me panic attacks and affecting me at my work, I stopped taking it.
