If you need to go somewhere you've never been before do you prefer...

I do need a map and step by step, most of the time I goto mapquest.com or something similar. Dispite this I always seem to get myself lost anyway and never arrive on time.

the map means nothing to me...but step by step directions will. it doesn't have to be for a new place, only. i find that it helps me even when it's places i've been several or many times. shrugs, as long as i get to where I was going, I figure whatever works...

That's what I do mapquest.com to get directions.

Step by Step and a map. I am petrified of going to new places. I always get lost or think I'm going to. If I can get my husband to drive me there several times, so I can get some landmarks in mind, it really helps. We've been married over 30 years, so he doesn't mind now. Also, I am not the best driver as you probably guessed. Some days I don't drive. Too many things have gone wrong.

I would do a much better job with step-by-step instructions. Maps confuse me.

I actually would like to have both, but like step-by-step directions. I feel I have an internal compass.

What I mean is at any given time I know exactly where north/south/east/west is located.

Right now I am facing Southwest. :D

I like step by step. I hate trying to read a map.

I am a very visual person. If I have a map it’s almost like I’m there. A good map becomes a part of my mind, not that that is always a good thing:) I can hyper-focus on the details and find my way almost anywhere.

Mapquest has been a wonderful addition to my life!:D Although, I'm thinking I need to start taking time to print the directions for leaving too -- I have trouble reversing them or remembering how I got there!:rolleyes:

Step by step direction don't account for things like construction, missed turns, and having to stop at the nearest fast food place to use the bathroom.
Using a map allows you to deviate from someone elses idea of how to get there. I've found many times that mapquest or other mapping sites give you some of the most lame directions and they have even been wrong 25% of the time. So, having step by step is useless to me.
