Even tho I didn't know I had ADD, knew I needed some kind of stimulant. Over the years have used Dexatrim, Metabolife and most recently Phentermine.
Question is, are the add med's similar to Phentermine?
In the process of getting medication and don't know which is best for me.
Ritalin is methylphenidate....some resemblance there...

Phentermine is a substitute phenethylamine and quite similar to amphetamine. The difference being phentermine doesn't release much (or any depending on which study you read) dopamine.
Similarities: they're all stimulants and can increase energy/activity and decrease appetite, anxiety, heart rate and blood pressure from norepinephrine.
But the increase in dopamine is a very different effect, and is the principle one that ADHD meds rely on.

Thanks, another question if you don't mind?
Is it true that the release of too much dopamine can cause a decrease in seratonin? And, if so, is it a gradual decrease, or does it happen right away?
Wow, so much to learn!

Doesn't norepinephrine increase focus by upping the stimulation delivered by your senses to your brain?
