I understand that C.H.A.D.D. cannot provide support groups in every location, but what about the those who live so far away from any of them? For example, there are absolutely NO support groups in the Northern part of NY (it's as if this section of the state does not exist)?? The closest location would be Utica (about 3hrs south)-- maybe I should check out Vermont instead.  :(

Just because there isn't one listed her or other places online doesn't mean there isn't one in your area. Call around to different agencies and psychlogists in your area.

MDSG's support groups are the main reason for our existence. They provide opportunities for participants to share personal experiences, thoughts, and feelings in small, confidential gatherings. Also known as discussion meetings or rap sessions, they provide a friendly, safe place for the exchange of experiences and information.

A typical group will meet for about an hour and a half, but there is no strict schedule and you are free to leave at any time. Reservations are not required, just show up. Everyone is welcome to attend our support groups: those with and without the disorder and people of all ages. Meetings are held at two locations in Manhattan (see below).

Support groups are lead by trained facilitators. We try to limit each group to a maximum of 12 people. Separate groups are available for:

Newcomers -- for people new to the Mood Disorders Support Group
Unipolar -- to discuss depression
Bipolar -- to discuss both depression and mania
Friends and family -- for people closely connected to someone suffering from depression or manic-depression
Youth -- for those under 30, including teens, also for those with both unipolar depression and bipolar disorder

I realize this is a very old post but do you know if this group still meets? If so is it at the same location and same time?

Wow, wish I had seen this, way back when.

In the future, people wanting to come to this meeting can use to find the public transportation that works for them.
