View Full Version : Adderall!
Sun2707 12-21-05, 07:44 PM Hi,
I take Adderall 5mg 3 times a day, I see a little difference but not much. I wonder how many a person can take a day and feel it working? I take Adderall in 5mg blue capsule. I once take the blue hard tablet and felt it work better and I think it was 5mg or 10mg. Should I ask my doctor to put me on thoses instead and increase the dose and what those hard blue tablet are call? If anyone can help me in this I will really appreciate it.
Take care!
livinginchaos 12-22-05, 12:23 AM If you don't think the dose is high enough (it is a very low dose), then ask your doc to increase it.
The blue tablet is Adderall IR (immediate release) in 10 mgs. With the IR, you're getting the full dose right away, rather than XR, which releases 1/2 of the dose at one time and the second 1/2 a few hours later.
Just discuss this with your doc and you can decide together which is more appropriate for you.

I am on the IR 10 mg twice daily. I take the first dose at around 8 am and the second at around 2 pm. By around 1:00 pm I can feel that the effects of the first are fading. I know that the obvious solution would be to adjust the time that I take the medication one hour, however I am curious as to what those who have had experience with both types have to say about their differences? Pros? Cons?
Basically, is taking one XR exactly the same as taking two IR's at equivelent staggered times?
Thanks for your help.
livinginchaos 12-23-05, 08:16 PM I know a bit about Adderall Xr, but have never taken it myself.
10 mgs of IR 2x a day is equivalent to 20mgs of Adderall XR.
10mgs is released right away and the other 10 is released later.
Thanks, Living. I will probably just keep asking around to get a general consenses of people's perceptions of each. The thought of taking only one pill vs. two and not having such a roller-coaster ride with it is kind of intruiging.

Hi sd2001,
Here is a website that gives the plasma concentrations for both XR and IR in graph form.

It’s a pretty neat link someone else posted a while ago.
Thanks, onetrackmind! This looks like something I can really sink my teeth into!
Sun2707 12-24-05, 09:45 PM Hi,
Is the maximum dose of Adderall XR in adult is 30mg or 60mg? I read someone it was 60mg that an adult can take a day is it true? Hopefully some of you can help. Thanks and take care!
LittlePrincess 12-25-05, 03:05 AM My doctor told me that the max dose Adderall XR is 30mg per day. However, I know from reading this site that there are many people that take more than that.

My doc has told me the same thing.
casinowife 12-25-05, 09:50 PM I'm on 40mg a day and my doc said I may need to go higher. He also mentioned that he has one patient that takes 90mg a day.
crazywithadd 12-26-05, 02:03 PM For me less is better it seems if I take more it doesnt work. It is the weirdest thing. It seems more would work better. Am I weird saying this.

Not weird. There's definitely an "optimal dose" above which the effectiveness is actually reduced.
