I had to share this. I've been through hell and I'm back with a potential solution for anyone who is struggling with any anxiety dissorder (my case OCD) and ADD-adderall.
L-TYROSINE 500mg-1500mg (walmart does not carry but GNC and Vitamin World have it.) refer to DR. Amens website amenclinic.com

I've been stuggleing with extreme anxiety for so long now, and part of the problem was my adderall. However, as many of you know adderall does wonders with ADD. So I researched this dilema of anxiety and ADD/adderall. Here is what I found works extremely well for me. L-Tyrosine 500mg-1500mg , its a vitamin. I could not believe how quickly it helped. I took my adderall xr 60mg and as usually I felt like I was going to crawl out of my skin, then I tried a 500mg L-tyrosine and after only twenty minutes I was feeling like my normal self. focused not anxious!

hope this helps someone!
hang in there

See ya,

Good advice. I may have to look into that.

Supplemental tyrosine should contribute to anxiety, not alleviate it. Very curious. I doubt your response is typical, but I'm very happy that you have found a solution that works for you.

If anxiety is a serious problem I would rather consider supplementing a stimulant medication with a serotonergic anti-depressant, such as an SSRI. This might work better for more people and have the added benefit of increasing neutrotrophic processes.

Paxil worked wonders for my SAD and Major Depression and General Depression and the nagging wife.

I must agree. I would check with your doctor before adding supps that effect noep. and dopeamine.

As the beta-blocker advocate of this board, I want to mention it as an effective solution against anxiety induced by stimulants.

A medication that I take for bipolar disorder (only applicable to me due to an SSRI and a bad liking to the mega addicting benzo's another one used in bipolar spectrum people) Topamax from what i understand helps anxiety and certain types of severe adhd which is what my current doc thinks is the issue, the reaction to SSRI is Mania in me but I don't take SSRI's so no problem and if I get depressed it's never for no reason so I know that Topamax helps with anxiey... Adderall, well I have to say that that drug itself caused me to develop anxiety again, it is a listed side effect and i have OCPD as an axis 2 and when i took adderall i empathized with actual OCD because i was bad. I was washing my hands 65 times per day etc... I switched to Dexedrine and i felt no anxiety whatsoever... Have you tried that medication yet... dexedrine is 1/4 of adderall (the single salt d-amphetamine sulfate) sometimes the levo-isomer (amphetamine) can precipitate side effects more. I find dexedrine to help the best and that may be part of the issue because I have heard the same thing with people thaat have adhd and have had the same problem or had the probelem vice versa because people are different... ask your doctor, I find that most doctors have this idea that dexedrine is "addicting and dangerous" and even with adhd they are reluctant to prescribe it but that may be the issue...

As the person above me did I was going to ask if you've tried switching from Adderall to another psycho-stimulant that may not aggravate your anxiety as much.
The short time I took Concerta it had me "crawling out of my skin" but the short time I've been taking Adderall I have been fine, calmer even. Perhaps you should try a med switch?

Anxiety has been a HUGE problem for me, too. Recently after a 3 mo. holiday, I went back to taking adderall and my anxiety was crazy bad. Prior to that past holiday I was also on kolonipin to help with the anxiety but it seemed to make me very aggressive (though it total got rid of my anxiety). My current pdoc is very against prescribing benzo's so he put me on effexor. It took a couple months but generally it seems to be effective.

Interestingly enough, effexor affects norepinepherine levels (as does L-tyrosine...if I understand correctly). The past 2-3 months I have been experiencing some rebound anxiety (meds have not changed). I wonder if the L-tyrosine could help?!

Unfortunately, I think my new pdoc is a complete idiot. After alot of success with adderall, he thinks I should try getting off. Dispite being back on for only 6 months. I need to play with adjusting my dose-lower in the AM, higher in the PM. But any questions seem to lead back to dropping adderall all together because of my anxiety problems. I don't think he hears me, but at the right dose it seems to help--I just don't know where that is. Anyways, I dont think he will know sh#@! about L-tyrosine, and just suggest dropping the ADHD meds.

I would love to here about others responses to adding L-tyrosine to their current regimen!!!

I was prescribed neurontin for anxiety. Not to take daily, but in situations where I used to drink to be less anxious (parties, etc.), now that I can't tolerate alcohol. It seems to help, especially with anxiety-induced insomnia, and it's pretty mild.
