My doc has switched my prescription from Dexedrine to Adderall XR(haven't started taking them yet) to see if it will work longer for me.

I've been taking 30mg of the Dexedrine Spansules in the am that works for around 6.5-7 hours then take 10mgs of the tabs 2x in the pm(I work 12hr+ days).

He's instructed me to take 15mg of the XR once or twice a day. My question is will 15-30mg of Adderall XR be an adequate dose when I was previously taking a total of 50mg of Dexedrine a day?

I'm not sure how to answer your question because I truly don't know... but I will give you a perspective from my own personal experience!

At one point I was taking 20mg Adderall IR in the afternoons as a "booster" to my Adderall XR morning dose (also 20mg). I asked for the "booster" afternoon dose to be switched from Adderall to Dexedrine because it was a TON cheaper and plus I just wanted to try it since I had heard that it was safer, cleaner, smoother, blah blah...

Anyway my psychiatrist ended up giving me 5mg of Dexedrine (IR not spansules) to "replace" the 20mg Adderall IR afternoon dose. The dexedrine was indeed smoother but it did not do much for me. I went to 10mg of Dexedrine and it just wasn't the same so I swiched back to Adderall within a couple of weeks. I still have the rest of the bottle of dexedrine 5mg tablets that I will take on occasion if I need just a tiny booster, so I guess it is good for that.

I wanted to try the Adderall XR because the Dexedrine Spansules(time released) only lasts around 6hrs or so for me and I need something longer acting.

I decided to try the Adderall yesterday and I hated the stuff. I tried to take it slow. Like I said previously, I take a total of 50mg of dex a day using both the spansules and tabs. So I started low with the Adderall and took 1/15mg cap then waited 2 hrs. Nothing happened so I took another 15mg cap and waited another 1.5hrs. I noticed a very slight benefit but nothing great at all so took a third one(total 45mg). Big mistake. I suddenly had a rapid irregular heart rate, major anxiety and felt light headed. Even after the Adderall XR wore off the anxiety and elevated heart rate last till I went to sleep lastnight. I then slept 10hrs!

I'm assuming it was the other amphetamine salts, not the dex as the dextroamphetamine never produces those
