How long it take you to feel the effect of Adderall and how long it stay? I take Addeall XR 15mg and I think I start to feel the effect an hour or hour and 1/2 later and the effect don't stay long around 4 to 5 hours top. I am wondering if other feel the same way has me?

I take the Adderall IR and it takes around an hour (sometimes more) to kick in. It all depends on how much food and stuff is in your stomach because it gets released in the intestines I believe. I either take adderall an hour after I eat, or wait a few hours after I eat to take it. For example....anything that has vitamin C, ascorbic acid, fruit drinks; you do not want to drink or take in prior to an hour or after 2 hours of taking your adderall because these things interfere w/absorption levels of amphetamine.

I don't drink caffeine anymore, but the caffeine free sodas (Sprite, Sierra Mist) seem to interfere heavily with the absorption levels of the adderall if I am consuming them around the same time as the adderall. Best thing to drink would be water I suppose.

The adderall, for me, seems to last about 2 or 3 hours at 10mg. I will probably get an increase next time I visit because it seems it should be more around 4-6.

With the XR you are suppose to get two doses. Go to webmd.com or rxlist.com and look at the possible interactions. If you are ingesting those ingredients, it may be interfering with the second dose releasing about 4 hours later after the initial one. Either that, or you may need a dose increase. Consult your doctor.

I had exactly the same experience with 20mg. My Dr put me on 20 mg twice a day and that sleepy “worthless” feeling has gone away. I take the second dose about an hour before I would normally have that feeling.

I have a relatively high metabolism and I’m 200 lbs +/- 20, so this drastic increase seems to have been warranted (contrary to my initial impression).

Really? Thanks onetrack mind. The last time I discussed this with my Dr, she recommend that I take another 20mg mid day. I did this a few times, but it made me a little anxious in the evening. Next time I see her, which will be in a couple weeks, I am going to see if 15mg mid-day dosage will help. We are still working on getting it right, but I am hopeful.

I would say try regular adderall, u can take it more times a day, and for me I feel it within a 30 minutes tops! I tried XR and it was ok but there are still times when I would need a regular adderall the get me through, (mainly in the last afternoon and early evening). Maybe try a combo of both XR and IR?

I just start Adderall XR not long ago. I am suppose to see my doctor in a few days. I hope she will listen to me, well she did last time, I am just scare to not be listen too coz my old doctor didn't, well this one help me more thank God. I gonna ask her what she think will be best for me the XR or IR and what dose I should take, hopefully she increase the dose, 15mg dont work long and not much. I am just a bit upset coz it take time to see what type of Adderall is good for me the XR or IR and what dose will help me. Hopefully soon we know what's right.

It took almost a week for me to get use to the new dosage, and for me it was worth the slight discomfort.
