I red that someone taking med for ADD is like someone who is diabetic and take insuline, is that mean people who got ADD whould have to take medication for it all their life? Also with time is Adderall will start to wear off, like we will need more and more with time? How long can you take Adderall one, two years or more? And what the limit dose?

I didn't know much about ADD before and was glad to find out that my condition had a name, I mean I was wondering how come I was always tired, had no energy, cannot concentrate much, well got the symptomes of ADD, I thought it was just me, that I was lazy. The medication (Adderall XR), I take make me feel normal, I am so glad it help, I am interest in things, more focus, got more energy, well I can fonction, well only a few hours but still it a few hours, when I don't take it it hard for me to get up and just fonction.

I remember I asked a doctor to test me for ADD, she said their is no ADD, it ADHD, she said your always tired, you don't have it, you should be the opposite, hyperactive if you got ADHD. I told her ADD is not ADHD, she said no it the same. Can a doctor be so dumb and don't know the difference between ADD and ADHD??? She said you just want a name for your problem because you want to get a cure. It was no used to talked to her, she just didn't want to listen.

Is it common that some doctor don't beleive in ADD and ADHD? And don't even know the diference between them? God their are doctor they should know? I felt that this doctor thought I was lazy and want a quick fix. It took me times and lots of doctors to find one who beleive me.

Not entirely true. Some kids are able to reduce or eliminate meds after puberty, but for most of us it's a life-long battle.

What you are talking about is building a tolerance. It does happen to some people over time, but it may never happen to you. There's no set amount of time.

Over 60mg in adults tends to result in less benefit, but everyone is different. Regardless you should never take more than your doc prescribes.

While it sounds like your doc didn't know much about it, she was right that ADD and ADHD are the same. The name that is used today is ADHD, and it's broken in to primarily inattentive, primarily hyperactive, or combined. A lot of people still say ADD, either because it's shorter or to refer to "primarily inattentive", but they are the same disorder.

You didn't say what kind of doctor, but MDs don't always keep up on the psychiatric literature. Many refer their patients to a psychiatrist; they're specially-trained to deal with these problems and better-qualified to diagnose it. When the best medication is a controlled substance, I'd be cautious, too.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply Barbyma, I appreciate it.:) The doctor I mention who didn't want to test me was not my doctor and she was just a regular doctor not a psy. Also in the past I did consulted a psychiatrist for it but she also didn't want to test me and didn't beleived I got ADD.

Okay ADD and ADHD is the same but still me I didn't have the hyperactive part but coz I didn't had it she didn't beleive I got ADD/ADHD. I guess you right regular doctor don't know much about this, psy know more but still some seem to don't know much on that subject.

I am always amazed at how many people don't keep up in their own field. There should be a requirement of testing every few years to keep a medical license!
