What is the highest dose of ritalin you have heard of someone being on? I take 80mg in the morning and then 30 in the afternoon. Is that a really high dose. It sounds like it is to me cause I never heard anyone being on that much. Is this normal.

It says that the daily dosage above 60mg is not recommended.

Was this a dose your physician prescribed for you?

Well, i've certainly heard of people on that high of a dose, and even more, in some cases. Seems that everyone reacts to the meds at a very individual pace, so if its working for you and its prescribed by a professional, why not take it?

So you take 110mgs Ritalin 10mg IR Tabs?

I am scripted 20mgs Q.I.D=80mgs.

The highest dose i have read is around 200mgs by a Narcoleptic fellow who took 2, 20mg tabs 5x daily, he was switched to Adderall 2, 30mg Ir tabs Q.I.D=240mgs.

I find in that my case a dosage of 20 mg works for about 2 - 2 1/2 hours. I'm currently on 60 mg a day but thinking of switching to 80 a day. Hope this helps!

I'm on 60 AM, 30 PM right now. Have been on 54 BID (108) of Concerta. I loved Concerta, but like dosing flexibility as well. Last night I took 5 mg before bed!

Well, I feel at the other end of the spectrum: 3 times 5mg of Ritalin per day. That is a total of 15mg. However, I might take it 4 times daily soon pushing it to a 20mg per day.

I already start feeling funny when I take one fully tablet (10mg). However, I just started the medications though.

Have a look at this article:

Physician prescribing habits could benefit from a healthy
dose of change (http://www.nationalreviewofmedicine.com/issue/2005/04_15/2_clinical03_07.html)

The studies referred to are by Dr. Thomas Spence and his reseach partner Dr. Beidermeier. The suggeseted dosing levels are about twice what is now recomended. I believe this puts into question standards for treatign ADHD since it is the second time this study has been done by a research team with impeccable credentials.

I had to post this, the highest dose of ritalin ive ever heard of is mine. I take 4 20mg sr a day and 4 10mg im a day. Its 30mg (a 20mg sr + a 10mg im) every 4 hours starting at 6am and ending at 6pm. Thats 120mg in 12 hours or 10mg an hour. Crazy eh ? Ive been on it a long long time and ive met hundreds of people on ritalin but i never heard of anyone on more than that. maybe someone here is though i dont know. I dont abuse them but i have in the past and i swear this is not a word of lie. I once went through over 400 in less than a week. I get 240 pills a month and i once saved a month and filled a month and they were gone in a week. My word to god. I'm pretty sure I lost about 100 i was so wasted and screwed up. I didnt sleep the whole week. I was psychotic at the end of it and ended up in the hospital. But im still here and still on it. They always refuse to put me on adderall and vyvance does absolutely nothing so does concerta. So i dont know what to do ? Im also on 300mg of wellbutrin a day too.

I read a few years back of a guy who on pdoc orders was on 385 or so mg a day. He'd gotten down to 100mg, but it wasn't helping him any longer so he's back up to 3-400mg a day as needed for ADHD and major depression.

I'm on 80mg a day but going for six years but I am getting that up to 160-200mg next week if all goes well since that's my theraputic level to get out of treament resistant depression and ADD. I've been on every anti depressive since 1988. They only get you out of the dark pit however not up to what most normal non-depressed persons function at.

I tolerate it well. Pulse up 10 beats or so, but I have 110 over 56 blood pressure and a 55bpm heart rate when not on a high dose.

I know this is my only hope left, as I've experimented with my supply and found good results between 150-400mg a day. 400 is no good for sleeping though.

Anyway. Just joined here today.

For the treatment of ADHD as is currently accepted by psychiatric disciplines across the world --> that dosage is high. If you think of it this way, the max dosage they allow in one capsule/pill is 54mg, and this comes as extended release concerta. I am on La 30, and maybe moving up to 40mg.

For a therapeutic dose, that's quite high. Most people tend to take between 10-50mg for an entire day, with the latter end of the spectrum starting to become high. However, that is not to say that this is the standard accepted dose for every single case. It depends on numerous co-morbid factors, and some people simply do not respond to medication the same as others, and other have extreme tolerances vs. tiny tolerance. This means that someone can take 10mg and be buzzed to their lightyear, and someone can equally take 60 and feel a minor variation in their sense of concentration.

I've heard of quite commonly people being on 2 40mg La capsules a day, and perhaps taking an IR 10mg at night for a mediating effect on concentration, but yes, that dose you are on is high. I would readily consider going back to your doctor, or going to a specialist ADHD psychiatrist, because at that dose consistently you can have some unwanted side effects. Mainly, to be honest, your greatest dangers are the simplest --> Hypertension and other associated tachycardia and heart problems. Just be on the look out, THIS BEING SAID --> if a person needs this dose and responds well to it, it can be quite possible that it is readily manageable by the body.

Now, I have abused the drug a few times, many less than I would have liked but many more than you should regardless 10+ 30mg LA, and about 8 Concerta...? Maybe more, I genuinely can't be certain. To help with concentration and then for a euphoric buzz. This is really, really, really un-advisable. It produces similar effects to cocaine in high doses and without doubt leads to a sense of euphoria at a high enough dose --> the problem is, it leaves you champing at the bit for more. It's all you want, just more, because? = you want to extend that feeling, and do not want to have to deal with the come-down crash of so much dopamine for so long, and then nothing, it's depressing!

The point is, you can easily survive mega doses of this stuff. I'm talking like 1000mg? Quite easily I would say, though SO SO SO BAD AN OPTION. I'M PURELY SPEAKING OF 'SURVIVAL' here.

Bad idea man, stick to your dose. Also, return to your doctor and consider whether or not that dose is way too high or not.

Hi There,

I suffer from ADD and Major Depressive Disorder. I take 60 mg at 6 am, 60 mg at 9 am, 60 mg at noo 60 mg at 3 pm and 20 mg at 6 pm. It helps me with my concentration and also lifts my spirits. I do not abuse it because it really helps a great deal.

Here's what: Is that dose working for you? Your pdoc has given you the "go ahead" to take that dose. I started on 20mg 3 times a day - IR Ritalin. I am now on 20 mg 4 times a day. My pdoc (an excellent doc IMO) told me had a few adult patients on 100 mg. a day. S***-can the upper limits set for Ritalin at 60 mg. a day. The FDA needs to review the new data about treating ADD with Ritalin in adults. In the meantime all the attention has been turned to Adderall, Vyvanse, etc. because Ritalin is such an "old" drug. Be cognizant of side effects, efficacy at your present dose, etc. Keep your doc in the know and you should be fine. This is the first and LAST time I am going to put my two-cents in on the dosage dilemma. Someone posts that they take 110 mg. of Ritalin or whatever and you get 10 OMG!! posts and a reminder that 60 mg. is the upper limit for Ritalin. B.S. Listen to your body and mind and keep your doc informed...and maybe stay off of forums. Or take it all with a grain of salt.

Good Afternoon, I take 300 mg of Ritalin a day. I have been on it since I was five years old and am 38 now. I have built up a tolerance to it. It is also helpful for my depression as well. I take 60 mg at 6:00 am, 60mg at 9:00 am, 60mg at 12:00 pm, 60mg at 3:00 pm, and 60mg at 6:00 pm. I do not abuse it as I am clean and sober. I have co-existing mental health diagnosis and my medication regime is finally working very well for me. It sounds like an extremely high dose, actually it is over the DEA legal limit therefore my Doctor had to write a letter explaining my situation. She is extremely professional and it is not something I abuse. I am 50 pounds heavier than I should be due to my 6mg of Risperadall but am slowly losing the weight with a healthy diet and exercise. I hope you do not think I am trying to come across as the one with the highest dosage but I have built up a tolerance but Adderall is not as effective nor is the Ritalin XR. I am glad to be a part of this forum. Thanks for listening.
