Hi guys,

I got a script today for adderall xr.
and the short acting adderall.

for some reason.

my insurance wouldn't pay for it.. because i went
to a doctor not at Kaiser. but then tried to use my kaiser card
to pay for it.

total.. it cost me more than 300 dollars. is that unusual??

------

my doctor... is letting me experiment with my meds.

he wants me to try.. different amounts... each day.. to try and get an idea of what will be good for me. I like this flexability. however.... I dont know if I am focused enough to be able to judge myself on how well the meds are working or not.

I am a female. 21. 112.... can someone recommend me a starting dose?? what is average?

i took 20 mg of xr and a short acting one today. and felt good.

but.. there were alot of ups and down.

will that go away??

i feel myself coming on.. and off of the stimulant.. and it makes me somewhat uneasy. will this side effect go away??

How can I keep myself eating... when i have no no no desire to??

has everyone had good experiences with adderall??

what should I look out for??

thanks.

20mg xr is a good starting dose. Take it in the morning. Keep the short acting ones until the evening when you feel the second dose of the XR trailing off (if you still need it). Eating and sleeping is the things you want to watch out for. You have to do both of these things. It may take a couple weeks to adjust to the medication. However, you should be able to start eating while on it after a few days or so. Most people can tolerate adderall fairly well and if used correctly is successful in the treatment of ADD.

I had panic attacks and used lorazepam before I started ADD meds. After I started ADD meds, I don't get the panic attacks anymore. I still have a perscription, but I never use them. You might want to try to avoid Klonopin because it will mess with the effectiveness of the adderall. They basically cancel each other out.

Just make sure you are eating something because it can make some people lose a lot of weight. You don't want to do this because it can have negative affects on your health no matter what you may think. And, if you do that, you will have to try a non-stimulant ADD medication which are beneficial for some.

$300 isn't unreasonable if you got 3 different dosages. Adderall is priced by the pill, not the dose.

20mg is fine to start, but I agree that XR would give you a much better idea and IR should be saved for times when you need it.

Yes, the ups and downs do smooth out. Especially once you've found the right dose.

It will take you at least a week on a particular dose before you can really determine if it's right. I continued to fluctuate in my responses for well over a week. Same thing for the first few days with a slightly higher dose. Once my body adjusted, however, my responses were fairly predictable. Not every day is the same even now, though (I'm going on 2 months).

Shire is the manufacturer of Adderall, and since it is still kinda new there is not a generic for it, however, shire has a patient assistance program that u and your doctor can enroll in:

Just to clarify: Adderall does indeed have a generic. Adderall XR does not.

Thank God I don't have to pay for my meds. I take Adderall XR, Paxil and Seroquel and I think they are $100 or more each. Some of you take both Adderall XR and IR. Do you take the XR in the morning and if you feel it start to wear off you take the IR, or you take the IR just in case you need a lot of energy because it will be a busy day for you and you gonna have a lots of things to do? Like you take the IR when you really need to?

I don't know but should I ask my doctor to try both the XR and IR at the same time and use it like I mention the XR daily and the IR when I really need it? Would it be okay or I will built up a tolerance and become an addict? I try to find the right dose and forumula for me, still new at this.

Is the IR stronger then the XR? It seem so, if you saving the IR and take it when you really need to is that mean it stronger? I had try the IR before and it was way stronger then the XR, well for me, I was disapoint to see the XR were not has strong has the IR but again the XR got less side effect and the crashing is less hard.

I'm going to ask my doctor if I can try both and use the XR daily and take the IR when I really need it. Hopefully I won't be to tense, I got problem to express myself correctly when I'm anxious. I'm trying to figure out how I will tell her about this. "I did some research and I take the best for me will be if I take Adderall XR and only take the IR when I need it?"

I don't know but some doctor don't like when you do reseach about certain meds, well some of mine were not open to talked about the medications I felt may be good for me, it like they the only one who know what type of meds will be good, they also don't have time to talked about all this. God I am the patient I got the right to try to find out and talk about what type of meds I should take or not. I got a new doctor, maybe she will take the time to listen and discuss with me about all this. Sorry I start to get tire I may not make sence in what I am saying.lol:)
