It's been a wonderful year of success on the exercise front. I now know that this is as powerful an assistant as my dextroamphetamine.
I got to run my first race this winter and exceeded every ones expectations, including my own. I ran my first 5km race in 27:52.
I've run 885 kilometers or 550 miles this year. My two high mile months were July with 142kms or 88.5 miles and December with nearly as much at 131kms or 81.5 miles. My legs are like rock and my self esteem is much improved. I still procrastinate to a frightening level, but I'm so much stronger emotionally that it isn't becoming a source for depression like it once was.
So that's a big part of what's gone right for me this year. Colds come and go and I don't seem to be vulnerable. I am spending much more time outside which seems to help. I wish it was more sunny, but if it was it would be all the colder.
I have a 21km or 13.1 mile race at the end of February that will be my most ambitious public display of my training. I'm on week 9 of sixteen now. Last Sunday's long run was 14.5km or 9 miles! I had to get up early on New Years Day to squeeze it into the schedule! I'm so addicted. :D
I'm running five days a week. Sunday is a long run, Monday is off, Tuesday is a short run of 2.5 miles, Wednesday is a hill run. This week it will be a two mile warm up, then six 400 meter (1/4 mile) hills and a two mile cool down for a total of 14.5 km (9 miles). Although the hills are on a tread mill, I'll have 400 meters between hills that accounts for the extra distance. Thursday is a short run, but now up to 4 miles. Friday is another day off. I'd like to be doing some strength exercises on my days off, but I can never seem to muster the motivation. The time it takes to put on these miles is significant as it is. Saturday is still a 3 mile run.
Week eleven is my biggest week as far as mileage goes. It will max out at 48 km's or 30 miles. So far I'm all healthy. My joints are good and although I'm fighting a cold, it's in my head so I'm still running. If it were to get into my lungs I'd have to back off some, but so far I'm staying lucky.
I feel like I've dropped years off my ability to smile. I checked my journal and was not so surprised to find that I'm only two pounds lighter than a year ago. One of the great things about burning calories like I have been is that I can eat like a hog. I'd still love to dump about another 20 pounds of fat, but I'll have to wait until the butter tarts subside I think. :D
Happy New Year all.
