I started with taking it at night. That lasted one night. I was up all night. Then I went to in the morning. I was doing okay till I got up to 80mg's. I've been on 80mg's for about a week now. The past 3 or 4 days I have been exhausted. I feel like I'm walking around with sleeping pills in my system. I should add that i have become an insomniac. I wonder if I should switch back to taking them at night? I just want to lay down and knock out. I can't though. I have a 3 year old to chase around. And dang it, I can't get her to take a nap.

Kathi: When I was actually on this medication, I had much the same symptoms....My doctor suggested 40 mg in the a.m. and 40 mg at bedtime.....That helped somewhat......

Unfortunately I had to discontinue the attempt, though I think I learned, in a real way, that doing NOTHING when strongly stimulated could be an effective and practical way to deal with some anoying things.

I went to all manner of ways to split the time. 6 AM and noon... 6 aM 6 PM

I was too tired to function and couldn't sleep either. All drug induced. I tried less and had some valuable experiences on the drug at lover levels, but ran into problems.

Simply, it isn't for everyone. give it an honest try, do what makes sense. and go from there...

Good luck.

I take 40 mgs at nite, immediately before bed (around 11:30 - 12 midnite) I take an additional 36 mgs (2 x 18 mgs) at around noon.

This seems to work for me.

My doctor told me that one of the complaint he gets from patients taking Strattera is sleepiness. So he recommends to take the full dose at night before bed. This is what I do, and it works just fine for me.

When I started taking Straterra at 40mg I was taking it in the morning and found myself having a really hard time falling asleep and then being dead tired in the morning, until about noon, even with the usual few cups of coffee.
Thanks to a post I found here I asked my dr about taking it at night once I was up to 80mg and went to see her again; she seemed suprised and said that most people wouldn't be able to sleep that way, but I tried it and it's working great for me. 80mg right before bed and I sleep well and wake up wide awake and on time.
Another plus was that I don't like to eat breakfast and taking it in the morning without food was just killing me; even when I did start eating breakfast to try to avoid the upset stomach it didn't go away entirely. Now, even if I eat dinner around 7pm and take the Straterra at 11pm I don't have any more stomach problems.

Tiffany, I think you'll find, what works for you is what you should do.

I found that the effect of Strattera 18 hours after taking it was the "good effect" for me. But until then was NOT good, and after 24 was not good. It was impossible for me to figure out how to always be at "18 hours after taking it.' so i had to quit.

Good luck.

Good for YOU! Glad you found a way to have the meds work to fit your lifestyle :)

4mygrls,
I've read a few responses from people with a bit of a insominia from Strattera and stimulants.

Overall... even if you had the strongest acting stimulant in your system... Too much is Too much... and a sign of insominia sometimes means the dose is too high!?!

You also mentioned you were doing "ok" before you went up to the 80mg's...

.... why did you go up?

Thanks
