View Full Version : Important Questions About Adderall.. Help!!
winter78200 01-04-06, 07:43 PM I was just perscribed AdderallXR (20mg) yesterday. I took it at 9 AM yesterday, and all morning and afternoon, i was soooo happy. I was calm, happy and i felt so alive. My concentration was great and I was motivated to do so many things. At about 6 PM, I was at work and I started to come down from it. I was irritable, but what makes me the most nervous I felt depressed and sad, but i didn't know why! I felt like this until i took it today, I'm still on it now, and I'm definitely NOT as happy as yesterday, but I am content now. I'm just nervous b/c that depression feeling was awful. I'm not on anti-depressents and I'm just scared b/c I felt like that. I'm hoping this feeling will start to go away. I'm hoping it's just the meds adjusting to my body and my brain, I was wondering if anyone else had this problem at first, and then it lessened as time went on, the more you took it.. please help me!!!
winter78200 01-04-06, 07:44 PM I also want to add.. I'm 21 years old, sorry I forgot!
barbyma 01-04-06, 07:58 PM The euphoria and subsequent let down are just side effects that will go away in a few days. Hang in there.
Expect the effects to be a bit unpredictable for a couple of weeks.
winter78200 01-04-06, 08:13 PM Really? That makes me feel a lot better... did this happen to you Barb? If so Please tell me ur story!
I'm on 20 mg as well....my comedown is pretty smooth for the most part....a little irritable, I guess I'm back to my old self :D when I come down, but I'm getting used to it....I've been on it for a few weeks already. I'm also on an antidepressant, Cymbalta, so maybe that's why I don't have the depressed feeling, but I do know that I feel a little irritable around dinner time. Hang in there.
winter78200 01-04-06, 08:50 PM Thank you so much guys, Im so glad i found this forum b/c you're doctors can tell you something, but its always best to hear from lots of people with experience... I do hope these "come downs" decrease. Please continue to reply to this thread, b/c I really want to know!
barbyma 01-04-06, 09:04 PM I don't usually feel a "come down", but I've been on Prozac for over a decade, so that might have something to do with it.
The euphoric feeling I had the first couple of days was pretty strong, though. I was also just SO HAPPY that the stuff WORKED!
I found it worked REALLY well at first, but adjustments went on for a couple of weeks. After 2 months, I think I still need another slight raise in my dose, but I'm getting close!
My son started Adderall XR about 3 weeks ago and gets weepy at times. But, it's hard to tell if it's the meds, because he's always been pretty sensitive.
vegansoprano 01-05-06, 06:26 PM This is normal. Rebound sucks, big time. Discuss it with your doctor. S/he might prescribe a low dose of Adderall or another med to help smooth the transition.
casinowife 01-05-06, 11:56 PM What does rebound feel like? I've never noticed any symptoms but I'm guessing thats a good thing.
luvmi3kids 01-06-06, 12:56 PM I also have never really felt a "Come Down". What I do feel is HUNGRY!! Like I haven't eaten for a month! LOL
casinowife 01-07-06, 12:26 AM Luvmikids...That's interesting because I crave certain foods on it and will only eat that particular food for days at a time. I think I ate those Little Debbie Honey Buns for four days straight. I meant to mention that to my dr but forgot. It's always sweet food too.
sherigraph 01-07-06, 12:39 AM my sons doctor told me that if my son gets weepy/irritable in the evenings to let him know and he would give him a higher dose. He said it would mean he doesn't have enough. So far, I don't think he is having those issues. Just the dry mouth, some headaches, some loss of appetite. He goes back in on Jan. 27 for a recheck. He is 17, and 144 lbs, is on 20 mg.
adhdxyz 01-07-06, 11:07 AM I am adhd, 44 and started Adderall XR in March of 2005. The 20 mg in the morning works for me but being a working wife and mother, my day goes late into the evening. I also would start getting crabby as it wore off.
On my second visit to my doctor, I told her about the crabbiness and crashing and she prescribed Adderall 10 mg Instant Release. I now take this at 3pm and it works for me into the evening.
My add husband started Adderall XR in June 2005. A 20 mg works for him but since he takes it so early in the morning also (5am), it wears off by the time I get home from work and he's back to his moody crabby old add self. :)
Every once in a while, if I knew we were having an important event at night, I would have him take one of my 10 mg instant release Adderall. The instant release works "instantly" and he definitely saw a difference also.
When he went back to the doctor, he told her and she prescribed him 10 mg Adderall IR for late afternoon also. Adding the Instant Release has definitely helped our add/adhd family at night.
Good luck.
