I got my prescription of adderall xr today. I usually had the 5mg and now I got the 15mg. Today I took 2x15mg after a while 2x15mg and an hour ago I took 3x15mg but I was mistaking the 15mg for the 5mg, so I took 105mg today. Can a person take 105mg a day? The more I took a day is 75mg. I red some person can take 100mg, is it true? Hopefully soon someone reply?

Yes, that's a lot of Aderall. No, you are not going to OD. It would take a LOT more than what you took to make you OD.

I would suggest just going out for a walk or something, and if you notice anything strange, call your doctor.

Thanks, Thanks a lot Uminchu, you don't know how grateful I am that you respond to my post!:) I feel fine and now I am not so tense anymore, it good to know I am far from the OD. I was concern because I never took such an high dose. Right after taking the 3x15mg I realise what I did, I start to be upset but I didn't felt any different then usual but still I was very concern.

Now my concern is my tolerance to adderall. It suprising how fast I can built a tolerance. I first start with the 15mg in late November, it work but not much, only a few days after I took 20mg and that didn't stay long, at 30mg it seem to work fine, staying longer then the previous doses but not long, after a few days I start 45mg and this one didn't last long, I jump to 60mg and this time it seem the right dose but after a few days this dose didn't work I took 75mg and it seem the right one this time. I am scare at how fast I built a tolerance. It a shame to need so much in just a short time. When adderall work I can function, I am at my best, I am interested in things, I got energy, I can focus and concentrate, when I am without it I am lazy, sleepy and cranky.

I am affraid that since I now took by mistake 105mg my tolerance will be too high. It gonna be 2 hours now since I took the 105mg and I don't even feel nothing, well it good that I don't feel bad that for sure but I don't feel interest in things, I don't seem to have more energy, well I was so anxious it may not had help to feel good but it sad to know that even at 105mg the adderall don't work, could it be that I was so nervous it made the adderall don't work? Well I should not complain and happpy that at lest I am fine. Sun- What is your prescription and how much is the maximum you are supposed to take per day (your doctor's instructions)?

I will be honest here... During finals, I have intentionally taken 60mg Adderall XR in one dose when 20mg XR per day was my prescription. (not recommended by the way!) My tolerance did increase significantly after that. When I tried to take my 20mg XR the following days as usual, I felt like I needed more. I take frequent drug holidays so that has helped quite a bit. In the past two or three weeks, I have had only taken my Adderall about 2 days. I am also taking the least amount of Adderall to get my through my days when I do take it.

For example, my most recent prescription is for 15mg Adderall XR twice per day (30mg XR total per day) For the days that I do decide to take it, I will take a 15mg capsule in the morning and if I am doing well at noon or 1pm, I will skip the second dose. Skipping doses if I don't need them and also the long drug holidays (school breaks) and/or frequent drug holidays (weekends when I don't have to study) has helped keep my tolerance low.

Also, just so we're all clear here- I'm not recommending anyone do this without discussing with your doctor. My doctor is well aware that I take drug holidays and he is totally fine with it. He also said that if my day is short or if I don't need it, the afternoon dose is not necessary. This is just a practice that has worked well for me. :)

Thanks for your reply I really appreciate it!:) My doctor prescribe me 15mg a day, I am ashame to say it but I don't follow her direction at all. I took 15mg for a few days but it didn't work much and after a few days not at all, so with time I increase the dose and I now reach 75mg a day, if I take less it doesn't work. I did take 75mg twice I think. My tolerance is way too high and I had try taking a break but I was only able to take a two days break.

If I don't take adderall I am my usual lazy self, I am a mess, cranky and tired, I can't function much when I take adderall what a difference, I feel better, I am myself at my best, I feel interest about things, have energy, I can focus and concentrate. So it's hard for me not to take it. I try but when I wake-up and feel so tired and cranky it's hard not to think, "God if I took adderall I will feel so much better!", so I end up taking it most of the time and now my tolerance is way too high, thats scary!

I don't want to depend on adderall to just be able to function and now with such an high tolerance what can I do? I don't feel I am addict to adderall, I don't crave it and don't feel bad if I don't take it I just feel my lazy self if I am without it but my tolerance is too high, I will try to skip a day, if I can maybe more, hopefully I can.

I realise I need more and more to be able just to function. I have to find a way to function without it, I try to eat right, vitamins and natural meds but so far nothing work has good has adderall. If only I can function only with a smaller dose if not at all it will be great. Hopefully a holiday break will help, I sure hope so!

By the way I am sorry if I had scare or upset anybody by this post. I was just so concern about the dose I took, I am just glad some peoples took the time to reply to my post, I sure appreciate it. Just out of curiousity, what do you do when you run out? If you are supposed to take 15mg per day and you take 75mg per day just to function, that is 5 times the amount prescribed, meaning you will run out five times faster.

I know that in my case, I actually have the opposite problem where I end up with tons left over. I still fill each script though.:)

How were you able to do that, was it hard at first to decrease your dose from 60mg to less? And now how much you take? Do a smaller amount help you for the day? Were you able to decrease your dose by taking some adderall break? If so how long you took to help you decrease your adderall dose? By taking an adderall holiday were you able to decrease your tolerance to adderall? Do you take adderall XR or adderall IR?

I know it's a shame that I don't follow my psychiatrist instruction and that I don't have more controle on myself to take less and take more adderall break but I never took more then the normal dose a person should take, except yesterday but it was a mistake, I had just receive my prescription and this time I was put on 15mg, I usually was on 5mg and I was used to take 3x5mg at once and I mistake the 15mg for a 5mg, how clumsy and stupid I am but it's a mistake and I didn't do it for the fun off it, didn't do it to get high. No Sun, at the time I took 60mg at once, I was prescribed 20mg once per day. Now I am prescribed 15mg twice per day (i.e. 30mg total daily). I think the most I ever took in the course of one day was probably 75mg of Adderall XR and I'm not proud of it. I had to just wait for a break from school in order to stop taking the Adderall. When I finally got a day without it, I slept for about 12 hours straight. My body was exhausted.

Anyway, I take breaks on most weekends and during breaks from school and that is why I have lots left over. I see my psychiatrist once every 3 months. He gives me 3 months worth of Adderall (i.e. 90 days worth) every time I see him. For example, at the end of October he gave me a prescription for Adderall XR- 15mg twice a day (30mg daily total). For three months worth, this was for 180 capsules! I have had a break from school and have taken about two weeks off. Plus like I said, some days I only take 15mg once per day, instead of twice per day. So when I go back to see him at the end of January I will probably have about 100 capsules leftover from the last prescription.

By the way, does anyone know if there is anything wrong with this (i.e. against the law in any way)?

I don't think that against the law to do so. That's your pills, it's your prescription. If someone give or sell their leftover that maybe a problem but if not I don't feel it wrong.

Wow 100 left, your good!:) I wish to be able to go so long without adderall but it's hard when I got busy days and need energy to go threw the day and even when the day is not so busy I need to take adderall just to get up and function. My goal is to be able to decrease my dose of adderall and even stop it. I want to be able to have energy, at lest be able to function without adderall.

I was thinking about asking my therapist if she could ask my psychiatrist about the posibility to have an increase dose but the more I think about it the more I realise that even if she increase my dose and I figure it will be only 5mg and the more a person can take is 60mg daily, I realise I will need to much, I take 75mg now and if I keep this up I will need more and more because like I see it I built a tolerance way to fast. Even if she increase my dose I don't think it would help. I need to decrease my dose, maybe taking a break will help, I hope so. By doing this I maybe able to decrease my tolerance and only need a smaller dose at lest not 75mg. I only did it for about two days and it wasn't all at once.

I felt pretty good on 75mg but I couldn't sleep at all. I stayed up all night and through the next day (not good for your health) Yes I felt the effects all day and into the next day but the crash was hard!!!

Yes it was hard to decrease the dose, but the break helped me.

Yeah I built a tolerance fast when I took 3x my prescribed amount.

I was first prescribed Adderall in April of 2004 and have been on and off ever since.

I was on IR in addition to the XR at one point. IR felt much "harsher" with a harder crash. It also "hit" me harder and I felt very spacey with a headache. I don't like it nearly as much as the XR.

Your now taking 15mg twice a day, so you take 30mg daily, is it helping you to go threw the day, how long adderall work for you?
Yes, it gets me through the day, though I will have a small crash in the late afternoon at about 4 or 5pm if I take only one capsule, but if I space it out right, it will last until bedtime. One capsule lasts roughly 7 hours.

You take 15mg when you wake-up, how long it take for you too feel the effect?
Usually about an hour.

When your daily dose wear off?
Like I said, about 7 hours or so.

When you take your second dose?
If I do take the 2nd dose, I usually try to take it by noon so I'm not up all night.

Um.... Not sure. It is similar but yes, since the first dose is in my body, depending on when I take the second dose, I can feel the effects much more than the first dose.

Well, also to clear things up here... It wasn't that I *needed* more Adderall. I was in a desperate situation and did something really stupid. I thought I needed to stay awake and EXTRA ALERT when studying for finals. I had already been studying all day long and at the time I thought it was a good idea to take more Adderall (NOT A GOOD IDEA).

I don't know if some people get high on 100mg they may not have a high tolerance like mine coz I don't even feel a bit high far from it, I don't even feel a tiny good, I feel nothing. I guess I was so tense it affect the adderall but I sure don't want to complain at lest I don't feel bad!

You give me some hope!:) I maybe able to decrease my dose of adderall and with time my tolerance will go down. I will try to take a break tomorrow. Sun....Maybe I'm not understanding correctly but it seems like you may be expecting too much from Adderall. I have never felt high or anything like that from Adderall and I take a lot more than you do and have only been on it for about 3 months. Your dosage is all over the place. You go from your prescribed dose one day to 2-3 times more then you run out and go down to nothing. So it's no wonder why you're feeling so tired and cranky. Try stabilizing yourself on Adderall for awhile and take something else for energy or find another doctor that will give you what it is that you think you need. I don't know about anyone else but I don't feel good or bad from Adderall and I definatly don't feel high and I'm on 20mg of the xr twice a day. I have tried 20 mg 3 times a day before but my dr said it was ok. When my medicine kicks in it's very subtle and I don't really notice the changes every single day but every once in awhile I notice wow I have stopped doing this or that or I'm getting better etc.

I slept 21 hours the next day and I really need it!lol:)

Try taking Sodium bicarbonate, or antacids with your Adderall, Antacids can increase the effects and duration of Amphetamines, or if you NEED a higher dose, talk it over with your Doc, people here take 10mgs to 240mgs Daily.

I have a quesion are there any bad side effects to aderall for kids with ADHD??? I took 125mg today after school and my face feels really funny i'm very dizzy and I feel very happy like I dont have a care in the world, is this normal o and if it makes a difference the aderall is not perscribed

Solkill, I took 105mg of adderall XR by accident at one time and I had bad side effect. I felt dizzy and week and even had a panic attack. What you mean by your face feel really funny? Is your face hitching or feel numb? Do you take 125 mg often or it was your first time? When I took 105 mg I been told that it was far from the OD, I don't know about 125 mg? Maybe you should consult your pharmacist or doctor and ask what side effect you can have if you take 125 mg? Is adderall prescribe to you if not then maybe you should only consult the pharmacist and ask what side effect you can have with 125 mg! Hopefully you be alright and becarful with taking so much mg of adderall!

Solkill, I'm not a physician but I do know that too much of any stimulent medication can give you a stroke or heart attack. What you're feeling is euphoria -- it's pretty easy to get hooked on that feeling and it is not what an ADDer taking their prescribed dose should feel at least not after the initial adjustment. There is a danger of developing an addiction or ruining your health, which is why Adderall is a class two drug and doctors have to write triple script prescription that is non renewable every month for their patients. Please be smart and don't do that again. If you have any numbness or your heart feels racey or irregular, please talk to an adult or call a doctor.

in my opinion redosing of adderall xr is a bad idea. Our bodies need time to recuperate from the amphetamines, and adderall xr is an automatic redosing of adderall. That might be why your tolerance has gone up so much

I must have a horrible case of ADD as my doctor has me on 30 mg twice a day. I've always had the understanding that weight plays a factor in the dosage many times. I have 2 sons with ADD and as my oldest son who is 11 grows, his dosage has been raised. I weigh 120 lbs. and frankly got a little concerned when I heard that so many people were on much lower dosages that I. My ex husband was recently started on Adderall and he takes 15mg twice a day. I never take more than prescribed as I never really feel the need to. I take my first at 7:00 am and the second at 11:00 am. I have a few side effects here and there but nothing too major. My doctor has even told me, if necessary, it can be taken 3 times a day which I don't feel necessary as I mainly want to get through my days at work without having 10 projects going at one time. Adderall was the 4th medicine I tried before I felt I could tell a difference and my assistant was always quick to tell me if the new medicine was working.

Lisaa009, How long had you been on adderall? Is it adderall XR or IR you take? Your doctor put you on 30 mg twice a day, that make 60 mg and he even want to put you on 30 mg 3 times a day, yeah that's a lot, my psy told me 40 mg is the maximum a person can take but I heard differently here, some say it's 60 mg/day other even take more. How come your doctor want to put you on 30 mg 3 times a day and you mention you don't feel you need it, why he want to raise your dose? If you feel you don't need so much do as you feel and tell him, the less you take the better it is and your doctor should not raise your med, that's odd he want to do so, usualy DR and Psychiatrist want us to be on the lowest dose possible.

You mention your sons have ADD, do they all take adderall? If so how many mg are they on? I'm curious coz I'm on adderall XR 20 mg and I had to wait a long time to only be on 20 mg and I'm an adult, I heard kids and teens can be on 30 mg and some had even start at 20 mg. I feel it's odd coz I'm older then them and I had only start at 5 mg. Anywas now I'm on 20 mg, it work sometime but when I got the cold or the flu adderall don't work much and sometime don't even work at all!

I had start a new natural medication called Attend, I start taking it 2 days ago 4 times a day, it seem to help a little but I'm still not sure if it's the Attend or something else and I need to wait at lest 2 weeks or even a month to see any real improvement but when I don't take adderall I still feel Attend help a little, it's not a huge improvement, it's not like adderall but it seem less hard for me to wake-up and I can function a little bit more then usual and it's seem easier for me to take adderall breaks, it's not such a pain now to take a med break.

Today I did took adderall but only half of it and it seem to work a little. I want to take today med off but I felt a little depressed coz it's Sunday and I had nothing to do but I didn't felt so bad only a little down and if it would had been a week day I don't think I would had take the adderall coz Attend seem to help a little, it's not as good as when adderall work but I don't feel my usual lazy and foggy self and it's still early to see the full effect of Attend.

Anyways I only took adderall today coz it's Sunday and Sunday usualy make me depressed and specialy when I got nothing to do lol:) but still I did took Saturday off, I don't know if it's coz of Attend I was able to do so? Hopefully Attend will work and I will be able to take less of adderall and won't need a too high dose of it!

my doctor prescribes a total daily dose of 90 mg for me 60 mg in the am and 30 mg at noon Adderall XR and he says that he's going to make the noon dose 60 mg next time around so it may not be bad to take 105 mg my doctor doesn't think so...

There is a difference in taking 105 mg in two doses and in taking it all at one time. It's important to do this with a doctor's supervision -- that's why they go to school to learn to do this as safely as possible.

Interestingly enough as far as taking less of your medication less often -- what my doctor told me on my last visit is that it's actually safer on my heart to take it regularly so that my body is adjusted to it rather than on again off again. I want to learn a bit more about that -- but it kind of makes sense.

I believe WINDUP is speaking to your first post Sun. He was being extremely sarcastic, not joking and not suggesting you really do it.

It is dangerous to take medication the way you want to rather than as the doctor has perscribed for you. If the dose isn't working for you you need to go back to the doctor and discuss it with them. You may need a different med, a different dose, etc.

I take Adderall XR. The doctor had tried 3 other medications before we found that Adderall works. I don't feel 3 doses are necessary because I mainly want the results that I get from Adderall during the hours that I work. My sons take Concerta but Concerta did not work on me.

Lisa009, I take adderall XR 20mg but it doesn't work for long and not all the time, it depend on what I eat and drink, if I had sleep enough the previous day and if I had sleep to much, if I have a cold or not, well all this things will make my dose of adderall work or not, other things can affect my dose of adderall but it will be too long to tell here. It's odd that your doctor want to increase your dose of 30mg twice/day to 3 times a day and you feel that you don't need it. Did you told your Dr you don't think you need it and if you told him why then he want to increase your dose? Usualy psy and dr want us to be on the lowest dose possible, it's rare that they want to increase the dose and it even more rare when a client think the dose he have is enough.

I used to be very depressed when my adderall start to wear off but since I take Attend I don't feel so depressed anymore. Well it happen one or two time that I didn't felt depressed when I crash. Previous to that I think I was taking the Attend but I don't remember if I felt that depressed? The time I didn't felt the crash I guess it was coz I had been a week on the attend and I took 3 capsules twice a day, so attend won't work right aways, it take time. So far the attend had work to help my adderall crash but it doesn't help me for my ADD, lack of motivation and fatigue.

Still I only been on it for a week and a couple of days, I need to wait at lest 2 weeks and sometime it can be up to a month. At lest attend had help for my adderall crash, if it help only for that I guess it's good enough but still I hope attend will help my ADD, if it doesn't work as good as adderall, at lest if attend can be half of what adderall is when it work it will be a big help. Anyone who read this post wish me luck, I will need it for Attend to work and to get my adderall this week!:)

I'm intrigued by the concern over acquiring a tolerance to Adderall. I've studied the issue and I can find no clinical evidence that a tolerance can develop -- assuming the medicine is taken as directed. It may be that some are confusing a diminished feeling of well-being with becoming more tolerant. That feeling could be the result of your body acclaimating to Adderall, which doesn't mean you're not receiving a theraputic benefit.
