Anyone taking diet pills and Adderall XR? I know diet pills are not the "healthy way" however I just want to know if its bad to mix them?

I've been told by my doc not to mix them. I was taking Adderall XR and then started treatment with a local weight loss clinic (very thorough and well-rounded approach -- not just a pill-pusher). The diet doc told me that increased focus was a side effect of the phentermine, so I thought I'd try just that for awhile. It doesn't do squat for the ADD.

Then I asked the ADD doc if I could/should take a small dose of Adderall along with the phentermine; he said no. Both are stimulants and that would increase the risk of heart problems, which my family history is full of. So I'll wait to go back on the Adderall till I'm off the diet drug.

So are you taking just the phentermine? Hows it working for you? I am taking adderall and at first I was losing weight (about 20lbs) but now it has stopped and i cant seem to lose anymore. I was doing Weight Watchers but am having a hard time eating all my points (due to loss of apptite from the adderall) but not enough loss so that i keep losing. Kind of a catch 22

Many stimulants constrict blood vessels in the brain and many increase blood flow in the brain.

Consider the few that do both; stimulants like Cocaine that raise heart rate, increase blood pressure and constrict blood vessels are often responsible for burst blood vessels and severe hemoraging in the brain.

I'd be very careful about mixing stimulants; you've got to know which works on what to keep these interactions from occuring.

Too much stimulants can give one a really bad head ache. So even if one doesn't experience the "biggies" stroke, rapid heart that doesn’t mean one will miss the unpleasant ones. I am glad to hear you have decided not to use both..asking doctor always a good idea before mixing medications.

I've been taking phentermine for years and just recently began Adderall. My doctor said I had to give up the phentermine because of the Adderall. I will admit I have taken both a few times (10mg of Adderall and 37.5 phentermine). I have a high tolerance to the phentermine because I've taken it for 7 years so it didn't seem to affect me when I took it with Adderall. I'm now on 40mg so I don't think I would do it again.

I wouldn't mix them at all.

Given the 2 choices, I'd clearly choose the Adderall.
