I need to find a doctor that actually believes that adults have ADD- I know I am depressed who wouldn't be living in a whirlwind. The doctor that prescribed Adderall before is gone. I feel like the doctor I saw was in a hurry and then they look at you like you are some street junkie. Where would I look to find one that will treat with stimulants. I know they work for me because they did before. Just feel like the whole world does not understand, tired of a house of piles of this and that, wanting to do something about it but the actions seem to lay dormant. Talk about frustrating..... Thanks for letting me whine for a sec. I just went to the doctor yesterday that brushed me off so the wounds are still open. My friend is coming in 40 minutes and here I sit in a robe doing this. Sound familar?

The only suggestions I have are to try your insurance company and the internet. In addition, you might ask your GP for a referral.

Any way you can get your mitts on those medical records....medical records can speak louder than simply your word.

Here are some sites I have gleaned in my frequent quest about the internet.

ADDA

American Medical Association:

CHADD

Hope this helps.

my doc will not really rx stimulants to people but I have been on enough lithium and thorazine and valium to tranquilize a horse and was still wound but he looked at my history and was on dexedrine most of my life with a "good responder" attached and I actually started to whine about having to take it so I get meds by proxy I guess.

I know what you mean. When I first went to see my doctor, I felt kind of strange. Like he was looking at me like I was some kind of junky. I use to be on meds years ago, but I was so young I don't even remember how effective they were...

So I guess I had a good doctor though. Because I did not straight up ask for meds or stimulants, I just wanted a doctors opinion and treatment. I didn't know how well stimulants worked on me.... he didn't even have my record and took my word for it that I use to be on dexedrine, and he prescribed it to me. The trial runs out on Thursday and I have an appt on Thursday as well...

Good luck!

Due to this frequently asked question I have made a collection of hyperlinks to that may be useful in finding doctors who treat ADD. . . .Doctor directories (http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33989)

Additions are welcome please PM any you may have, but they are there as a resource to help in searches for health care professionals

Know anyone with kids with ADHD? Ask for the name of the doctor that actually handles their meds, and call those docs for referrals for someone in the area that works with adult ADD. No guarantees, but you might find someone that way.

Of course, if Chadd is active in your area, getting a referral thru them would probably be faster.

If you have Testing Papers, you should be able to get stimulants.

They are also Rx'd off-label for Treatment Resistant Depression and some studies have shown their usefulness in patients who are post-stroke [provided they don't affect BP]. The latter use was recommended in a study in the journal "Stroke" a few years back. I recall seeing the article briefly.
