can sumbody help me please cos i have a lot of trouble studying-
1)i dont know HOW!?(e.g reading text out loud!?)
2)i really cant get myself to concentrate(Any tips on that?)
and when i give myself breaks on the timer then i read a book during my break of about 15 minutes and then im just like okay 1 more page...and then its like im gonna finish the chapter and THEN i end up nearly finishing it
3)every time i get round to studying(which is hardly ever) i feel my mid drifting away with out my noticing...
4)i start re-arranging my desk, doodling on my revision book and everything.
often im just sitting and staring at my book or computer when i begin in an attempt to do homework or study.
5)after ten minutes of revising i am absoloutely exhausted-this also happens when i am with my math tutor, revising math.is this normal?

please help me out-my grades are slipping!(how is it possible that just two years ago i was a straight A student with the occasional B+ and now my grades are only C's?
p.s that writing notes thing takes a long time which i do not have because we are often given end-of-term tests on short notice and i take like a really long time to write plus i often leave revision to last minute:o

im basicly looking for revison and concentrating techniques-thanks

There are threads with study tips on the forums. Try doing a search on "study" and see what pops up. I've listed many tips from the cognitive psych literature.

Good luck!

hi Amanda!!

Here's a link to studying tips:
http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12764

Studying is difficult to figure out, especially since everyone has their own way(s) that work for them.

I found that the only thing that has helped me with concentration is medication. I know you're going into the doc for eval, so upon diagnosis, you can discuss meds if you want to take them.

As for reading during your 15 minute break - stopping at that 15 minutes takes will-power. I find it difficult too, but as soon as that timer goes off - whatever I am doing is stopped, even if I'm in the middle of it.

When you re-arrange your desk, doodle, etc that's just procrastination. It also is difficult to deal with, but do-able.

This is the way I see it (not that it always happens, but I'm working on it):
The longer it takes you to get to something, the less time you have to do something you have fun doing. So, you might as well get the not so fun stuff out of the way.

I'm not too sure what you mean by the math revision.

Check out the study tips thread (the link) and you just have to try them and figure out which tips work best for you.

Here is what works best for me:

(1) Study for 30-45 minutes a time and get 15-30 minute break (it all depends on my distraction level and interest in the materials)
(2) Read through the articles/chapter
(3) Read through again and write an outline of only the main points
(4) use the outline as a study guide and read as needed (depending on if I have an excellent understanding of the materials)

If I lack time, I skip #2 and go right on to #3, but I find that I usually grasp the information better when not skipping #2.

Good luck, Amanda!
