20mg was not working after 4ish hours, so my doctor upped me to 30mg and prescribed 10 instant release 10mg ones for days where I really needed it.

it seems kind of strong to me... opinions? I weigh 180.

My 100 pound 12-year old is on 40 mg of XR in the morning and 20 mg after school. It's not based on your weight, it's based on how your metabolism handles it, among other things.

I weigh 118 and take 30mg XR... Although, I weighed 136 when I started... Doesn't seem too strong for me! (I'm 5'7)

Nope. My psychiatrist once told me that 30mg XR was the "maximum dose". Though a few sessions later he told me that he has patients taking 60mg XR per day (in response to my concerns about dependence/addiction and that 30mg XR was too much for me). Weird.

BTW- I am a 145 pound female on 15mg XR twice daily (30mg XR total daily).

i think by 'maximum dose' he simply meant that shire doesn't make xr caplets any bigger than 30mg. 30mg xr isn't really that huge an amount, it's roughly similar to taking a 15mg ir tab dose in the morning, followed by another 15mg dose a few hours later. this is a perfectly normal and common dosing schedule for many people. when i was taking ir tabs, i was taking 15mg in the morning and 10mg in the afternoon, so when my doc switched me to 30mg xr, there wasn't much of a difference. i weigh about 180-185, but that doesn't really matter much.

the other thing to remember is that there really is no 'standard' dose or dosing schedule. there are commonly used doses and dosing schedules, of course, but this is generally because many of the people taking these drugs are in school at some level and thus have a fairly common schedule. however, it should always be remembered that each patient is different, and each patient's needs are different. good doctors will help each patient find a treatment that works for them as individuals, so the real uestion isn't whether this dosage is normal for everyone else, but rather whether this dosage is helpful for you.

My son is 17 1/2, started out on 20 mg Adderall XR, weighed 144 and is 5'11. He is now on 25 mg and weight is 138. Summer will be here soon so we are planning on taking him off, the doctor will weigh him once off, and then again when he starts him back on it when school starts.
