Wellbutrin has worked wonders for me for many years.

The only time it stopped working was when I was switched to generic buproprion by my insurance company.

I don't do well on generics. At any rate, I'm back on brand name Wellbutrin and it continues to work well in concert with Adderall.

My son after trying Strattera (it made him very sick) Focalin (it made him depressed) and now Wellbutrin XL, I will get to the point, we just got his report card in the mail.....all B's and one A. While it is not a perfect drug, I think it is the one that is the best one at this time for him. So.....all of you out there don't give up! It takes alot of time to figure out what is best for you. I do agree about the theory with the generic drugs. My son was on a generic buproion at first and I had the Dr. change him. The best way to do that is have them prescribe wellbutrin xl as that does not come in a generic form.Dixie

Momofadder,

Is you son on Wellbutrin XL only or does he also take something else for ADHD? The reason I'm asking is I have an appt. today. I haven't been able to take anything else they have given me because of side effects. I took Well. a while back to help w/smoking and I was thinking of asking for it again.

He only takes 150 mg. but he only weighs 127. I don't know if it a weight dosage or not. All I do know (I learned from this board) is people have different kind of luck with generic. We did have the generic for a month and then I asked him to be switched knowing that did not come as a generic. Good luck!

Well my doc. gave me the Well. This is my 5th day on it. The first two I was in a really good mood. I can't tell any difference in the focus. Today I really can't tell a difference in the mood either. He started me on 150 mg. I'm gonna take it for the rest of the week and if no change I may see about increasing.

Perhaps if you are adult size which my son is not yet anyway you do need more. I know they like to start off small to see if that works because why take more if not needed. Hope that helps.

Are you on SR or XL? I recommend the XL as that is always in the system. But I am not a Dr. though.

(I'm not sure if this thread is limited to how Wellbutrin has helped ADD, or if it's for all good experiences with Wellbutrin, so sorry if I'm off topic.)

Wellbutrin saved my life. I had been depressed for a long time, and a combination of several tragedies back to back just completely sapped my will to live. I was very suicidal and past unhappy- just flat affect and disinterested in life.

Wellbutrin snapped me out of that. It did not magically make me happy (although I definitely am nowadays), but it made it possible for me to get well. I never feel totally weighted down by depression and hopeless now; even when I'm sad or dejected, it seems manageable.

it did not do anything for my ADD, sadly (hooray for Adderall, which did!), but my expereince with Wellbutrin has been overwhelmingly positive. Also: no sexual side effects, which is not typical of most antidepressants. I want to write the makers of WB love letters. :)

I should note that it took a while to kick in- maybe 2-3 weeks- and it was not fun to start on or to titrate up on. Both starting it and then increasing the dose made me feel jittery, paranoid, and gave me insomnia. That all ended after about 6 weeks, though, and now I have no noticeable side effects.

I took Wellbutrin for at least 1.5 to 2 years ( I guess I should update my sig) but I just got off of it a few months ago. My experience has been positive. I tried to do Lexepro and Paxil-both killed my sex drive and made me gain weight. (that doesn't help in the sex dept either...so maybe the pharmaceutical companies ought to consider that for a lot of ppl especially those that are married 0 sex is not an acceptable situation)
I did find that I didn't feel like I had a gun to my head every day. So it helped with deppression tremendously...Before Wellbutrin if anything bad happened the first response was "I want to die" and now I can cope with it w/out ever going down that road. It was a RELIEF not feeling like that anymore.
Getting on and off of it isn't the funnest thing...
Side effects that stuck with me throughout were dry mouth (I'm on adderall too so I had a DESERT of a mouth yuck), some constipation (embarrassing but I'm trying to honest with you here!)
It did help with ADHD a bit- slightly with what I've seen called 'activation'. I'm combination type- innattentive and hyperactive so for me getting started on anything at all is an issue ..For instance getting unglued to my computer to go do the laundry or getting off the couch to start anything. I just get glued sometimes but yet I'm restless. Talk about paradoxical.

I'm on my second week...it's a success for me. not in an over the top way...just kinda made me a better me.

side effects have been minimal for me. first two days were odd, then I had a day this week when I was kinda cranky (not enough sleep, more than anything). the only other bad one is mild constipation...:(...but I have noticed that my sex drive is feeling a boost, so I guess it's a trade-off!

my mood overall is better, and I'm getting things done...laundry, cleaning my desk at work, vacuuming my condo, actually putting dishes in the dishwasher and then running it (!)

I have noticed two helpful things about Wellbutrin:
1. I no longer have naps in the day - used to have two or three short ones if staying at home and just as many if at the library studying
2. I lost 8 pounds in 8 days, and now have levelled off at about a ten-pound loss (suppressed appetite is all).

I may be having a skin-reaction though, but am looking into it.
Good luck.
