I'm on Adderall XR 15mg and like most people this med had help me but it didn't stay long and it wear off fast. A increase dose may be need.

I will really appreciate if some of you who take adderall both XR and IR could share their experience with it? Do Adderall help you? How much adderall help you, a lot or not much? On what mg are you? At what mg did you start this med? Did you need an increase dose fast or it took time before you feel the need for one? Do you still crash at the end of the day, if so what you do to deal with it? Do you take both the XR and IR? If so is it a good combination? If you take both is it the XR you take in the morning and the IR you take when you feel the XR start to wear off? Do you only take the IR has need or it's the IR you take in the morning and the XR you only take has need? If you are on both what mg of XR and IR are you on? How long have you been on adderall? Did you take adderall breaks often, sometime or not at all? If you take breaks is it helpful to decrease your tolerance to it? When you start adderall again did a break make your med work better?

Since I asked for your adderall experience I guess I should tell about mine!:) Maybe it will be helpful for some people!

At first adderall XR 15mg seem to work fine for me but my tolerance had built up very fast and 15mg doesn't work for me anymore, if it do it's rare and it don't last for long, well it never last long but now it's very short. I red that only a single dose of adderall can help for the day, it's sure not my case. Maybe people who are on an higher dose then mine, like 20mg or 30mg, a single dose work for them but I try theses doses and it doesn't last all day.

I beleive that XR 20 or 30mg plus IR 10mg has need can be a good combination for me but I'm not a doctor or psychiatrist and I need to discuss about this possible solution with my psychiatrist. Next time I see her I will talk with her about this and hopefully it will be the right solution for me. I start to be tirer of waiting to find out what will work for me. It seem I'm not the only one who have to deal with this med problem, this is a situation that a lot of people with ADD/ADHD have to deal with!

I have taken Adderall for 20 months. Currently I am prescribed 20mg XR a.m., and 10mg IR in the afternoon. I worked up to 20 mg XR in steps (5, 10, 15, 20) over the first six months of treatment. I then added the 10 mg IR at month 14. My psychiatrist was involved in every step of the titration and monitors my experience in our monthly appointments.

I find if I have a very full day (say 7 a.m. to midnight) I need the full prescription to stay focused the entire time. Otherwise, I don't take the IR. Or, if I get up late, I take only the afternoon IR dose. Overall, the medication has been really good for me, though I do remain concerned about the long-term effects it may have on me.

I also will say that taking IR alone is not completely effective for me b/c I get a very buzzy feeling, and tend to impulsiveness for a period before the medication evens out and I feel focused. Perhaps this results b/c I have acclimated to the XR release, and taking IR results in too sudden a change from non-medicated to medicated. Also, there is a more noticeable come-down as the IR medication decays.

I am mindful not to take more than I need and currently am about two months "ahead" on each prescription b/c I usually take weekends and lazy days off. I think I also need the drug holidays to keep my emotions in balance b/c I find that when I'm on adderall I'm somewhat less expressive and artistic. So if I don't take a break I feel as if all my emotions build up, then when I do take a day off I'm a sap who tears up at beer commercials. Well, not that extreme, but not far from it.

Good luck, though I fear my experience may be too anecdotal to be completely helpful! I'd be interested in hearing from others who combine XR and IR in their treatment protocols.

Thanks for sharing your experience with adderall, it was very helpful. Hopefully my psychiatrist will find adderall XR and IR will be a good combination and it will be the answer for my ADD because I lack energy most of the time and it difficult for me just to get up and function.
