I've gained about 20kg recently with some of the medications I've had to take and no matter what I try I can't seem to lose any of it. Is it possible to lose weight if you're on antidepressants or am i fighting a losing battle?

Tudorose: The question of the century.....you have managed to ask....

I will let you in on a littile secret......several months ago my doctor in California put me on a med called Topomax.....it's used to treat seizures.....but it has appetite suppressing qualities....and tends to reduce cravings for carbs.....WHO KNOWS WHY???? And so I've managed to lose some weight since then....

But in regard to what you ask....it's tough to lose weight period...the meds just make it that much harder....I assume they increase your appetite and make you want to eat more???

If you can afford it, I recommend go see a dietitian....she will help you with your particular situation.....

But the bottom line to ANY weight loss -- is the calories you take in (no matter where they come from - carbs or protein or fat) must be less than the ones going out....

One way to do that? Exercise.....5 times per week....it will help your depression as well.....and eat tons of fruits and veggies.....and drink tons of water and get enough sleep.....
