View Full Version : Do any of you have problems with your appetite?
Nocturnal 01-17-06, 05:22 PM While on 20mg XR twice daily I don't get hungry during the day until maybe around 4:00PMish and then I start to get a little hungry. I take my medicine usually when I wake up on an emtpy stomach, around 7:00AM. Anyone else get this way?
yea, I'm not hungry either...but I force myself to eat fruit during the day and then eat dinner. by the time dinner rolls around, I have some appetite back. I'm on 20mg xr in the am and 10 mg xr at 3pm.
Yup, its a pretty common effect with all of the stimulants... for most people, it comes back a bit.
But anyhow, you should force yourself to eat. One meal at the end of the day is VERY bad for your health, and worse for your concentration. Your body needs food, if you feel like it or not.
casinowife 01-17-06, 09:01 PM Yes! I start to get hungry in the late after noon but if I don't eat immediately my hunger goes away and I can't eat. I don't understand how I can be starving one minute and not the next. I end up ordering food in the drive thru because I'm so hungry but by the time I get home to eat it I'm not hungry any more. Same thing with sit down restaurants. I order food but don't eat it or after a couple bites I'm really full.
hoosiergirl 01-18-06, 03:57 PM I dont have much of an appetite at all until the medicine wears off.....and then, WATCH OUT!!
LacyLew 01-18-06, 04:54 PM I guess I'm the oddball. I get ravenously hungry and get the shakes and a headache if I don't eat something every 2-3 hours.
barbyma 01-18-06, 05:39 PM Not an oddball, LucyLew. I don't do well w/o food, either.
I can make it about 6-7 hours if I've eaten well already, but MUST eat w/in an hour of taking Adderall.
I also need to stay more hydrated than I used to or I get headaches.
bluemagic 01-18-06, 06:18 PM yep, still have minor issues with it even after a year but I actually *do* get hungry 3 times a day now instead of maybe being hungry 1 time a day like I felt immediately after I first started taking it
LacyLew 01-19-06, 04:03 PM Even though I still eat like a pig, my 12 year old son won't eat hardly anything at all. He was diagnosed with ADHD four months ago and since then has lost nearly 10 pounds. He wasn't a big kid to begin with. On top of having no appetite, he's a REALLY picky eater. I'm not sure what to do to get him to eat. He's very stubborn.
attention 01-21-06, 01:57 AM No surprise here peeps, (it's 'speed' for goodness sake) Adderall, was formally used as a diet pill in the 60's-called 'Obetrol' as it contains 50% l-Amphetamine.
Seriously peeps ALL the Amphetamines cause a lack of appetite in normal folks, and Adderall was sold as a diet pill, before Shire' reformulated it and RE-launched it as a 'treatment' for ADD/HD, in 1996.
zz123zz 01-21-06, 11:54 AM I've been taking 10 mg of XR for 2 weeks and haven't noticed a change in my appetite. However, I don't think 10 mg is enough for me. So, at a more effective/higher dosage, I bet my appetite will decrease.
Matt S. 01-23-06, 06:35 PM I have no appetite at all (10 mg Adderall XR twice a day) and I have been at that dose for 8 months... I could eat on ritalin and concerta but I got addicted to them and needed dose increases every 2 weeks (never misused)
bmacrthy 01-26-06, 05:42 PM I have had some problems with my appetite too but after being on it consistently for a while, my body got used to the medication and i started getting hungry at the right times. Also, one problem you could be having while on this medication is that you could have high acid reflux. I had a problem with that when i started taking adderall and now i usually take a tums or zantac before i eat and that helps a lot..Just a little tip
