Hi all,

I wasnt sure were to put this so I decided here was as good as any!!

I think my son harry is more OCD than ODD, that I first thought, I went to see his teacher and she says if he cant do the things the way he wants to, he wont do it. Everything has to be done a certain way or not at all.

Today I bought him a colouring in book and he sat and coloured in, and loved what he had done, then he accidently ripped a page and put a green felt tip mark on an other page. Well he reallyyyyyyyy lost it, I have never seen him this bad b4. I know he is particular about things, very much so for a child of his age, he is 7.

He has to wipe his mouth almost after every mouthful of food, if he gets a tiny bit of dirt on his clothes his whole outfit needs to be changed or if he gets slightly wet from something. If we are out and his dinner doesnt come the way he likes it he won't eat it.

I have learned now at home how to set his food on his plate for him. lol sorry im straying from the colouring in thing!! He cried and said it was ruined and nothing could fix it and said he would never be happy again etc. He was screaming he was so upset. It took me over an hour to settle him done just a bit. Does this sound like OCD to you??

Well I ain't no expert on OCD but I definitely would read up some more on it with the events you describe, and probably bring him to a medical professional that you trust...

Irish_Lady: It is nice to hear from you again....

If and when you do choose to see a professional about your son, I would suggest going with having written down all of his symptoms....so you don't forget.......hopefully you can get an accurate diagnosis.....

You might look at material on autism or Asperger's too. But really, rather than guessing, seeing a doctor you trust would be a first step, I should think.

Hi Lynne

Just from what I am reading, it sounds like your son has OCD symptoms. If it is actually OCD, I can not say. But, like everyone else says, see a doctor and get a definite diagnosis.

Keep in touch and let me know how it goes.

Lynne,
I'm wondering if you ever got a diagnosis on your son. So much of your post I can relate to, serving his food just so, etc. Seems like he is so needing to be in control of his environment---I know I just need to learn more about OCD.

So far my 10 yr old son's been dx'd w/tourettes and 'possible' OCD.

We tried to get him in for an MRI today but he was on the verge of panicking, so after an hour I didn't force the issue:(

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great, otherwise I'm waiting to hear from the neurologist about how to approach this--I hope it's not gonna be sneaking meds into his morning drink or anything.

From what I understand the MRI was just to rule out any 'other' reasons for his tourettes behavior that started this year.

thanks all
