Hello, I am a newbie, so bear with me.

I believe, and have believed for some time that I have Adult ADD. I have not sought help, because I have been fearful of the labels that may come with the treatment. I am paranoid about potential employers finding out, or an insurance company treating me differently once diagnosed or if a particular medication raises a flag.

I am miserable, but would rather be miserable privately, then healthy and have my life made a shambles by "the man". LOL.

Has anyone experienced any fallout from treatment? From friends? family? work? health insurance? life insurance? mortgages? etc.

I haven't experienced any fallout because I haven't told employers. I went to an ADD conference once and a person there who was a boss, but also someone who has ADD said she doesn't want her employees to tell her about their ADD. It opens up a possible law suit. It's better to keep it quiet. As far as insurance companies, I'd try to ensure that you choose an insurance company that you will use for a long time and be careful when you switch insurers on how they handle pre-existing conditions. I'm not an expert on this stuff, but from what I understand if you are switching from a COBRA plan to being individually insured, the insurance company is required to take you with pre-existing conditions. There's some kind of state law. So I'd check into that. I think it's really helpful to have the diagnosis done and to know whether you are or not. Also there's a lot of help you can get from psychologists, coaches and support groups. So it would be good to find out if you have it.
