Hello there;

Well, today I took my first dose of Adderall XR (5mg).

I have been on Strattera for the last 6 months or so (and am still taking it), and it was working a virtual MIRACLE in my life, but now it's effects have dwindled somewhat (:mad: ) and I'm trying to see if a higher dose will work. The side effects of the higher dose aren't so good, so I'm trying to wait it out to see if it improves.

Meanwhile, my psychiatrist has prescribed me a low dose of Adderall as an adjunct to the Strattera, and I took it for the first time this morning.

I was expecting to feel a bit 'jacked up' or energized, or something similar. After all, this is a stimulant right?!

But now, although I think my attention is somewhat improved, I'm finding I actually feel a little 'dopey' and physically weak, and slow, and not feeling like doing anything at all really ( - I sort of feel like I could sit here contentedly and stare at the wall for the rest of the afternoon).

Is this a common experience with Adderall? Does this go away with time?

Honestly, the LAST thing on this earth that I need right now is for something to make me feel LESS like doing things....usually it's all I can do to just complete the basics of living in my day (not to sound melodramatic, but in essence, it's true).

Can anyone else relate?

Many thanks,
addinbc.

You are on a very low dose, but your body is still "surprised" and needs time to adjust.

Give it at least two weeks. It's likely you'll feel pretty energized for a couple of days (like days 2-4), then level out a bit. After a couple of weeks you'll have a better idea about how it's working and whether or not you could do with an increase.

Hang in there!

Actualy, I noticed the same thing with low doses of adderall. I used to take about 60mg a day, but when first starting out, I went from 10mg on up. 10mg put me to sleep, I mean flat out. Im not too sure why, unless its so low of a dose its over with too quickly and the rebound is all you feel, not too sure about that though. But once I uped the dose I was fine. Just bring your problem up with your doctor. But as barbyma said, I would make sure and give it a while just to make sure.

Stimulents frequently make ADDers a little tired at first. For the first several weeks on stims I was really wiped out but it soon balanced out. If it doesn't -- I'd definately talk to your physician. The response to a combination of meds is also a little harder to predict.
