For over a year I've been trying to get VESID (Vocational/Educational Services for Individuals with Disablities) to help me retain the jobs I've gotten (I think I've had over 10 last year:( ), but my assigned job coach refuses to come on the job and help me. She says I'm "highly functional." Well, that's nice, but if I'm so highly functional then why can't I keep a job? Why are they fighting me? Why don't they want to provide the service that the state is paying for with state taxes??

Has anyone else here run into problems with VESID being uncooperative? I hope there are people here who can enlighten/encourage me by telling me your experiences. PLEASE SHARE!!

Thanks in advance.

Hi Princess Jenifoo,

I am sorry I don't have any answers for you, but thank you for bringing this up! I am wondering if this VESID you are talking about is similar to a program I have been referred to in my state of Massachusetts called, "Mass Rehab." Its long name is Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, and they assist people "with disabilities" with getting and keeping jobs. I believe it was originially founded to assist people who are blind, but now many other "disabilities" qualify a person for their assistance. In fact - I QUALIFIED, although I am not sure what EXACTLY made me qualify. And NOW - I'm not quite sure what they DO to assist people. They haven't helped me at all, yet what they DID have me do led me to think that they would be helping me SOON! All they did is tell me that if I wanted to go back to school and earn a degree I could do that through them. Well, I could do that without them, too!! As a single mom who is low-income, I would qualify for grants anyway. However, WHO would pay my regular bills (mortgage, car, electricity, etc) while I was in school fulltime??

In the beginning they through around "programs" that I would use such as seeing a psychiatrist, getting aptitude testing, etc. This sounded pretty awesome . . . but that never happened.

How did you get involved with VESID? (If you don't mind me asking. You can pm me if you prefer. I am very interested in this topic.)
