Hi everyone,

This forum is such a great resource! I wish I would have found this much sooner, I feel like I can finally relate to people with similar experiences.

Anyway, a bit of history. I always figured something was weird with my focus and concentration...it took me 6.5 to get through college (I'm 24), just graduated in December! I finally decided to get help last week after speaking with my 40 yr old brother who was recently diagnosed with ADD.

Since I'm no longer a full time student, and I don't have a job yet, today's initial ADD evaluation cost $90 out of pocket. I have another one on Monday ($90) to discuss treatment options and then finally one in a few weeks with a psychiatrist($150) who will probably prescribe me Adderall since I told him I tried my brother's and it was the first time I actually felt like I could focus and concentrate.

This seems like it's going to be rather expensive, and that's without meds right now....anyone have any experience dealing with ADD without insurance?

Hey Matt! Welcome!

Have you looked into Philly's free health care system? When I graduated from college, with no job, I sgned onto the free care system where I lived....Just call the teaching hospital (Jefferson, right?) and ask if they have something like it. Most likely, they will. It will save you lots of money, and the best part, it requires minimal paper work!

The good new is that Adderall (instant-release version) is available in generic. The XR version is pretty expensive (over $100/month for dosages up to 35mg).

Think of it as an investment in yourself.

Good luck with it all & be sure to let us know how it works out.
