Apparently the difference between the Barr and Adderall (shire) was $210 compared to $81. When they finally got everything ready, with my insurance, the total came to $53. I was so excited! But I didn't realize that Adderall(Shire) might have gone down in price dramatically as I have heard happens with some people. So maybe it might have ended up being like $70, which I would have gladly paid for if the quality was unquestionable. I was prescribed 10mg, 2 pills per day. Today I took 2 pills because 1 pill wasn't having the effect I wanted. I don't seem to be experiencing any of the problems everyone is talking about with Barr medication. I really only need it when I am studying. I have extreme ADHD, but through therapy I have found ways to manage it for everyday tasks, such as going to class and taking notes. It's reading in particular where I experience a massive amount of difficulty concentrating. Without medication I am jumping to a million other things only to have several unfinished homework assignments. In any given 4 hour period of being at the library, i only get 1.5 hours worth of work done, very inefficient. Hopefully Adderall will save me time. Next time I see my doctor, I'm going to ask for 20mg.
Granted I have not taken Adderall(Shire), I really think the differences between the two (Shire and Barr) are negilible. I am open to the idea that I could be wrong, but I really think that people experiencing problems with Barr are just psyching themselves out, I don't think its physiologically any different. I expect many people to disagree with me...hey, maybe I am wrong. I can understand it not lasting as long or not being quite as strong, since the FDA allows a + or - 15%(or is it 20%? can't remember) of ingredients. But for people to be getting drastically different side effects on the generic as opposed to the brand, I just find it hard to believe that the manufacturing process has that many errors. As far as I can tell, most people here taking Generic, are taking the Barr pill. I think the incidence of side effects might be higher because there's a larger sample of people. I think if as many people took brand and generic (of any lab or pharmaceutical), the results would be roughly the same.
In fact, I'm going to make a poll to determine which one people prefer! I hope I'm right, but only because it would justify spending less money on a generic!! :-)
P.S.: About the poll, am I right about all those Laboratories/Pharmaceutical groups? I might be mixing them up with Dexedrine, as I spent a short amount of time researching all my options before I went to the doctor.
