Hi

I am new to this group.

Please help, anyone have any suggestions or tips that they use for retaining information. I tend to forget things that most people remember. Especially, things pertaining to my job!

Thanks, Tammy

Tammy,

The main problem ADDers have with memory is that we have "working memory" deficits.

This doesn't mean we're bad at remembering, it just means that we can't do it the same way others do. Most people "memorize" a lot of things using rote maintainence, but that requires working memory. For ADDers, we have to find ways to bypass this and send it directly to long term memory.

The same strategies that improve memories for "normals" work even better for us -- try to connect new information with something you already know. Form an analogy, develop an acronym, anything that is connected to present knowledge.

Hope that helped....
