How do you know if you're on the right meds if you don't know what normal is supposed to feel like???:(

There is no "normal", and meds won't get you that far anyway.

I think the "right" med is the one that you feel comfortable on. Ask yourself if you can do the things you want or need to do because you take the medication. If not, it's probably not "right".

You may need to make adjustments along with it. For example, I try to time my day so that my most demanding work is done at my peak. But, before the meds I couldn't do the work at all or it would be painful to try.

If you're satisfied, it's right.

Just my 2 cents.

For me it's kind of strange. When I am not taking meds I feel like i'm on drugs. When I do take my meds, I feel "normal."

I could tell right away that the meds helped. One of my biggest problems was driving. I would either blank out and forget there was someone ahead of me at a light (!), or I'd be constantly distracted and looking everywhere but were I should have been. Fortunately, no accidents, but many close calls. Now I can focus on the road and my reflexes seem better.

I can stay focused on household chores better now. I can actually look back and say I accomplished something. And I'm not getting tired out just planning to go to the store.

Just try to compare before and after. If the after is a little better, then something's working!

I remember thinking, "Wow, is this what other people feel like all the time?"

Struggling,
Are you asking if Ritalin is the correct med for you or if your dosage is the right dosage after a year has passed ?
Because your messages are reflecting different information...either that or I'm just confused, LOL!

When my Adderall dosage was too high, it made me extremely irritable/snappish.
When it was too low, I was still too distracted, but not as much.
I always think better too low than too high of a dosage.

If you need a higher dose, you should speak to your doctor, and I always do it on the weekend, to acclimate/adjust.

Peace out,
Nova
