My teenager (female - 17) was diagnosed w. ADD w/out hyperactivity. Could someone please tell me which drugs are made for ADD and which are for ADHD? I am nervous to put her on medicine in the first place and I do not want to medicate her for symptoms she doesnt have. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!

There is no difference; they are the same disorder.
Hyperactivity is a set of symptoms that some who have the disorder manifest and some do not, but the treatment is the same.
My son is definitely ADHD without H and does very well on Adderall XR. Others approved for kids are regular Adderall, Ritalin, and I believe now Strattera. Of course, your daughter is pretty much an adult, so I guess there's even more to choose from.
Good luck!

Barbyma - how old is your son??
Other then the Adderal does anyone have any suggestions/experiences w/ teenage girls and medication? I read that strattera was said to cause suicidal thoughts in people? Has anyone had that experience?
I was prescribed Strattera, in the recent past, and it didn't cause any suicidal ideations, in my case.
I have ADHD, and was prescribed Ritalin when I was younger and was prescribed Adderall recently.
None of the medications I was prescribed for ADHD caused suicidal ideations in my case.

Strattera is a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, and meds like it have been blamed for suicides in the past, but research has refuted that claim. Still, the warnings persist.
If you read these forums you'll find that some love Strattera and others have found it has terrible side effects. So, it's effectiveness is still questionable, but the upside is it's nonnarcotic and has virtually no potential for abuse.
Thank you very much for your help - best of luck to you and ur son!
