Hello, I am brand new to this site and I need some hep, please. I am a 41 yr old male and feel I have ADHD. I have researched and read and taken several "tests" and seem to be correct. I have really been struggling with job issues and have thought for along time I may be ADHD. Once I read the symptoms of this disorder I am sure I have it. I cannot focus while reading, praying or enven listening many times. I have many jobs started but not finished. I have trouble going to sleep and then staying asleep. I am very impulsive and have been the way I am all of my life. What do I do?? Just go to my family physician???

Warm welcome to you!!!
I hope you find all the information and support you might need here.
Moderators and Administrators are always here to help you if there's a problem.
Going to your family doctor is a good start. Be advised that some doctors still don't believe in adult ADHD. If your doc tells you there is no such thing as adhd in adults, you should seek another doctor.
good luck

Welcome, Enimo:
I agree that seeing your family doctor would probably be a good start, but don't fret too much if you feel brushed off. Don't be afraid to get a second (or third, or...) opinion.
I you haven't read them yet, I can recommend "Driven to Distraction" and "You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Crazy or Stupid?" I believe both are available on audio CD if reading is a problem.
Another big question is, have you been this way since childhood? Or is it something that developed later in life? In general, the symptoms must be present since childhood in order to be considered ADHD, even if there was no impairment. When things appear later in life, I think more along the lines of anxiety and depression, which can also cause attention problems.
Yes I have been this way since childhood. Of course 40 years ago we didnt discuss ADD we just chalked it up as being a kid. I have seen the same behavior in my 11 year old daughter and have only recently thought it is probably ADD also. Not sure but am going to do more research on her also. What do you guys recommend as the first way to help is I am considered by a doctor to be ADHD? Meds or learning to deal with it? Many thanks
