I'm curious, but does anyone have a link or any info on the history/discovery behind MPH? If you google amphetamine, you can find who first discovered it, when, that it's found in nature, etc, but I have no idea where MPH came from. Pharmacologically it's quite similar to cocaine, yet it looks closer to a phenylethylamine or amino acid structurally. I first thought it might be a cocaine derivative due to the pharmacokinetics but it cleary isn't. Anyway, kind of odd, and would like to know where they got the idea for it.

This won't answer your question about the history - but it's kinda funny. It's an ad for Ritalin back when ADD was known as MBD - minimal brain dysfunction. Check it out.

(MBDforums, anyone?)

That is a very silly picture. I do not believe it's an ad campaign. It's more like a picture of a schoolkid who is working hard and then someone who put something in front of the picture.

The amphetamines.com website is listed under the better living through chemistry domain, run by David Pearce:

These are a wierd mix of info and lunacy. Definitely not a source of legit information.

See the thread: http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17462&highlight=amphetamines.com

Yeah, it's like those silly pages in magazines where there's a picture of a car and then some weird words like Toyota or Chevrolet in front of the picture. It doesn't make sense.

Ritalin was introduced in 1956, as a remedy for the tired, lathargic patient, needing help. I think it was really bought out to discourage folks from using the much more beneficial (Meth)-amphetamine medicines which many found so helpfull.
