I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD, which explains alot to me after reading up on medical information about the disorder. I was put on 18mg of Concerta about two weeks ago and saw no change but increased moodiness. My Dr. increased me to 36mg and still no change. I would like to switch medication and get off the "Methylphenidate" type of medication and switch to "Amphetamine" type. I would love any comments, concerns, or information on doing this or anything.

You should discuss it with your doctor. My personal opinion is that if methylphenidate-class drugs were ineffective, it is likely that amphetamine-class drugs will also be ineffective, as both drugs work very similarly. The main difference between them is not method-of-action, or pharmacodynamics in geek-speak, but simply in their chemical structure, which affects absorption and excretion rates.

It is possible that Strattera or possibly Wellbutrin would be a more effective option, although there is no way of knowing without trying. It would also be useful if you could describe what effects, if any, you feel when taking the Concerta.

don't forget about effexor. My sister could not deal with concerta either. She had the same problems. Effexor works out perfectly for her.

Thankyou for your comments and advise. I forgot to add that I am also on 300mg of Wellbutrin and 150mg of Zoloft...would that effect the way the medication is working?

Oh and I forgot to mention that I have taken strattera before and it made me sick all day and was basically in effective.
