Last night was my first time taking Ritalin. It made me feel really confident, gave me great focus, and made me feel much more outgoing socially. It was great... but it wore off after 2 or so hours. The doses I took today didn't seem nearly as potent as last night. Is it possible to develop a tolerance after one dose?

I haven't had personal experience but have heard others say that the "buzz" is best those first few times. It may be like coffee that way. I remember the first time I drank coffee and if you compare that to now, 25 years later, there is a huge difference. The proof is in the pudding. Do you get more work done on meds, if that is your most significant problem?

I've heard Barb (who is one of our resident smart people around here) say that your body is in a little bit of shock with that first dose -- I'd be surprised if it's actually tolerance. I've never heard of tolerance developing that quickly, but then I'm not an expert on meds.

A lot of things impact the effectiveness of my medication, including how tired I am. Sounds like a good question for your doctor if things don't improve. Only the lucky ones get the dose right on the first pill (I was one of those lucky ones -- my doctor had me try more and it was too much), so doctor's frequently start low and tirate the dose upward as prescribed to the most effective dose.
